Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 5.0)
A bar graph representation is shown in the figure for year ranging between 2015 to 2016. Petroleum products is still the highest exported products among the rest with slight increase in percentage growth moving from 2015 to 2016. While all the products showed a positive percentage growth Gems and jewellery stands out as an exception with a decline in percentage. Engineered goods showed the highest percentage growth demonstrating the country's increased focused in inovation and technology. Looking at the overall figure it can be said that the country has an overall good year with a good percentage increase compared to the past year. Textile and Agricultural products market needs to work on how they can increase further as it is a category that has huge potential to grow in near future. The export is currently depending heavily around the petroleum products which is good for a middle eastern country which usually have good oil reserviour but it is advisable that the country should also focus equally in the growth of other product category as well.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify several relevant features, including petroleum products as the largest category and gems and jewellery as the exception to the general upward trend. However, the response only partially reports the visual data: it gives no export values and does not compare the categories systematically. It also misidentifies engineered goods as having the highest percentage growth; textiles rose most, by 15.24%, while engineered goods increased by 8.5%. The claim that textiles and agricultural products need to improve, and the advice about oil reserves and diversification, are opinions rather than summaries of the chart. To strengthen the response, give a concise overview grounded in the figures, then compare key values and changes accurately.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is some organisation: the response moves from the largest export category to the exception, then to growth and broader comments. Linking words such as “While” and “Looking at the overall figure” help signal relationships. However, the progression is not consistently clear because chart description, interpretation and recommendations are mixed together in one paragraph. The opening does not establish a clear summary, and “all the products showed a positive percentage growth” is immediately qualified by the decline in gems, making the connection confusing. Use separate paragraphs for an overview and supporting comparisons, and connect each point explicitly to the relevant category or figure. This would make the sequence easier to follow and reduce abrupt shifts into opinion.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “exported products,” “percentage growth,” “decline,” and “category,” and the main message remains understandable. There is also an attempt at more specific language in “depending heavily around the petroleum products.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, such as “bar graph representation,” “increased focused,” and “good percentage increase.” Spelling errors in “inovation” and “reserviour” are noticeable, while “good” is repeated and too general for describing data. Aim for precise chart language, such as “export earnings,” “rose by,” and “accounted for the largest value,” and check spelling and natural word combinations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response includes some longer sentence forms, for example the sentence beginning “While all the products showed a positive percentage growth,” and most ideas can be understood. However, control is uneven, particularly in sentence construction and agreement. “A bar graph representation is shown in the figure for year ranging between 2015 to 2016” has an unclear structure and faulty time expression. “Petroleum products is” has a subject–verb agreement error, and “Textile and Agricultural products market needs” has unclear number and article use. The sentence beginning “While” is not punctuated or structured clearly as a complete contrast. Use simpler, accurate sentences to report each comparison, then add complex clauses only when their relationships are clear.
