Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
You identify the chart as comparing export earnings in 2015 and 2016 and mention several categories, but the response only partially reports the main features. Some key comparisons are inaccurate: engineered-goods earnings rose from about $57 billion to $62 billion, rather than falling, and gems and jewellery declined from about $43 billion to $41 billion, not to $50 billion. The overview also incorrectly groups agricultural products and textiles as reaching $40 billion; their 2016 figures were about $31 billion each. The response is substantially below the required 150 words, leaving little room to select and explain the main trends. Include a clear overview and accurate comparisons of the highest and lowest values and the notable changes.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5
There is a basic attempt to organise the response, with an opening sentence followed by an overview-like paragraph and a final statement. However, the ideas do not progress clearly: the paragraph moves between petroleum, engineering, gems, agriculture and textiles without a consistent comparison, and the final sentence repeats the point about petroleum rather than adding information. Linking words such as “however” and “while” are attempted, but their relationships are unclear—for example, “however” introduces a rise in petroleum rather than a contrast, and “While there was steady rise” is left as a fragment. Use separate paragraphs for the overview and key details, and group categories by whether earnings rose or fell.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “bar chart,” “export,” “revenue,” “rise” and “percentage,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or forms make the report less clear, such as “export earning,” “goes fluctuate,” and “faced a little rise.” There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “potroleum,” “agricultur” and “reaces.” Aim for accurate, natural collocations such as “export earnings increased,” “fell slightly,” and “recorded the largest rise.” Avoid repeating “increase” and “revenue”; precise terms like “value” and “figure” will help you describe the data more clearly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts some longer sentence forms, including a contrast with “however” and a clause beginning “While,” but control is inconsistent. Errors in verb forms and agreement appear in phrases such as “which increase the revenue” and “The number … goes fluctuate”; the latter also leaves the sentence structure unclear. The sentence beginning “While there was steady rise” is incomplete, and “the increase in export increase the revenue” repeats a subject without a well-formed verb pattern. Most sentences are understandable in parts, but these problems sometimes obscure the intended comparisons. Practise complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check tense consistency when describing past-year figures.
