Student answer (Band 5.0)

The chart illustrates the value of one country's export in different catagories in 2015 and 2016.

Overall, it is clear that Petroleum products had the highest export rates in both the years. followed by Engineering goods. Another noticeable feature is that textile had the lowest export rates in the year 2015.

Firstly, petroleum products had the highest export rates whereas export rates increased slightly of about 60 billions in 2015 to 60.5 billion in 2016 followed by engineering goods its exports rising slightly of 55 billions in 2015 to 60 billions wheras gems and jewellery ranks in third postion with figures of 52 billions in 2015 to 50 billions in 2016 the figures in 2016 decreases as compared with other catagories.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify the main categories and note that petroleum products lead in both years, while textiles are lowest in 2015. However, several figures and comparisons do not match the chart: petroleum rises from about $61 billion to $63 billion, not $60 billion to $60.5 billion; engineered goods rise from about $57 billion to $62 billion; gems fall from about $43 billion to $41 billion; and textiles rise from about $26 billion to $31 billion, not $35 billion to $42 million. The overview also omits the notable largest percentage increase in textiles and the decline in gems. Because inaccurate reporting affects much of the description and key features are only minimally summarised, the response addresses the task only partially. Check each figure against the visual before describing it.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. The sequence from the highest-value categories to textiles and agriculture is generally understandable, and “Overall,” “Firstly,” and “Secondly” help signal progression. However, some links are awkward or unclear, particularly “followed by engineering goods its exports rising” and the final sentence beginning “Whereas agricultural products.” The overview is also separated from the details but does not clearly preview all the main trends. Use complete, clearly linked comparisons and organise the body around related movements—for example, categories that rose versus the category that declined—to make the progression more effective.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant chart vocabulary, including “export rates,” “increased,” “remains stable,” and “figures,” so the topic is generally clear. However, the range is limited and some choices are imprecise or repetitive: “export rates” is used for monetary values, while “figures” and “slightly” recur without adding much detail. There are also spelling errors such as “catagories,” “wheras,” and “postion,” which reduce accuracy. Prefer precise terms for the data and vary the language used to describe changes. For example, describe export values as “earnings” or “values,” and use verbs such as “rose,” “fell,” or “remained broadly unchanged” where appropriate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including comparisons with “whereas” and clauses describing changes. However, complex sentences are often faulty, as in “petroleum products had the highest export rates whereas export rates increased slightly of about 60 billions,” where the clause structure and comparison are unclear. Other examples include “its exports rising slightly” and “agricultural products exports almost remains stable,” which have problems with verb form and agreement. Punctuation also needs attention: “Overall” is followed by a full stop before “followed,” leaving an incomplete sentence. Build accurate short sentences first, then combine them with correctly formed clauses and consistent past-tense verbs.
