Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You identify the chart’s subject and report several relevant changes, including the 5.18% fall in gems and jewellery and the 15.24% rise in textiles. However, the response addresses the task only minimally because it does not give a clear, accurate overview of the main features or compare the export values in billions. A key factual error is that engineered goods rose by 3%; the table gives an 8.5% increase. The statement that petroleum exports were “same” also conflicts with the chart, which shows a rise from about $61 billion to $63 billion. The overview that all categories except gems increased is broadly right, but needs accurate figures and clearer emphasis on the highest and lowest values.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

The response contains a basic sequence: it introduces the chart, lists changes by category, and ends with a general comparison. This gives the reader some sense of the topic, but the information is not arranged coherently enough to make the main features easy to follow. There are no clear paragraphs separating an overview from supporting details, and the final sentences repeat earlier points rather than developing a conclusion. Linking words such as “But” and “Similar case” are used, but the relationships they signal are sometimes unclear or inaccurate. Organise the response into an introduction, a concise overview, and grouped comparisons, for example, rising categories together and the decline in gems separately.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough basic topic vocabulary to communicate the general subject, including “export earnings,” “petroleum products,” and “percentage.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are unnatural, such as “exports rate,” “increased upto,” and “decread.” Repeating “products” and “increased” also makes the description less precise. Some expressions, including “grey shade” and “black shade,” describe the chart’s appearance rather than its data and are not needed for an effective report. Use standard terms such as “export value,” “rose by,” and “declined,” and vary verbs where appropriate. More precise vocabulary would help distinguish the dollar values from the percentage changes.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response relies mainly on simple sentence patterns, with a few attempts to combine ideas using “as” and “but.” Errors are frequent and sometimes make relationships between figures difficult to interpret. For example, “The petroleum products were increased” uses an incorrect passive form; write “Petroleum exports increased.” In “the grey shade shows … and black shade shows,” articles are missing, while “the Gem and Jewellery products were decread” has problems with both sentence construction and verb form. There are also inconsistent capitalisation and spacing around punctuation, as in “2016.As” and “But ,”. Practise accurate past-tense reporting and subject–verb agreement, then use a small range of controlled comparison structures.
