Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5

The response identifies several relevant categories and recognises that petroleum products and engineered goods were among the largest earners, while textiles was the smallest in 2016. However, it does not accurately summarise the main changes: petroleum rose from about $61 billion to $63 billion, engineered goods from $57 billion to $62 billion, gems and jewellery fell from $43 billion to $41 billion, and textiles increased from $26 billion to $31 billion. The claim that petroleum and engineered goods changed by “around six billions” is unclear, and the statement that gems and agricultural products were “around…fourty billions” misrepresents their values. There is no clear overview of the contrasting trends or the strongest increase and decline. Select the key comparisons and report them accurately.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

Some comparison is attempted, and the response moves from 2015 to 2016, with linking words such as “However” and “as compared to.” This gives the reader a basic sense of the intended topic. However, the ideas are not arranged into clear stages or paragraphs, and several points are repeated rather than developed. The long final sentence combines multiple categories and comparisons, then ends unfinished at “the minimum amount to take in the,” which disrupts progression. References such as “the last two years” and “the last year” are also imprecise. Organise the response into an introduction, a concise overview, and grouped details, using clear links between the main trends.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The response uses some task-related vocabulary, including “export earnings,” “product category,” “highest,” and “lowest,” so the reader can identify the subject. However, word choice and collocation are often inaccurate or repetitive: “each situation of exports,” “consider with 2015,” and “the highest amount to take the government” do not express the intended meanings naturally. “Highest” and “lowest” are repeated without more precise language for changes or comparisons, and “fourty” is misspelled. Use standard chart-reporting expressions such as “export value,” “compared with,” “rose to,” “fell to,” and “accounted for.” More accurate vocabulary would make the comparisons clearer and reduce the strain caused by awkward phrasing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

There are attempts to form longer sentences and use comparison structures, for example, “However, the petroleum products and engineering goods are the highest product category in 2016 as compared to…” However, sentence control is inconsistent, and errors frequently make relationships difficult to follow. Examples include “in 2016 consider with 2015,” the subject–verb mismatch in “petroleum products and engineering goods…is highest,” and the incomplete final clause, “textiles is the minimum amount to take in the.” Articles, plurals, and punctuation are also handled inconsistently, with missing spaces after full stops and commas. Practise writing shorter, complete sentences with accurate past-tense verbs, such as “Textile earnings rose from $26 billion to $31 billion.”
