Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify the leading categories—petroleum products and engineered goods—and note textiles’ strong rise, so the response includes some relevant comparisons. However, the overview is incomplete and partly inaccurate: agricultural products were not among the lowest in 2015, and in 2016 they were level with textiles at about $31 billion. More importantly, the table gives percentage changes of 8.5% for engineered goods and a 5.18% decrease for gems and jewellery; the response instead says 3% for engineering and 0.81% for gems. It also omits the actual export values and does not clearly summarise the overall pattern. Select the main trends accurately, distinguish rises from falls, and support the overview with key figures.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a basic structure: an introduction, an overall statement, and paragraphs describing selected categories. Linking phrases such as “Overall,” “In contrast,” and “Looking at the data” help signal the direction of the discussion. However, progression is limited because the final paragraph returns to engineering after the table discussion without developing a clear comparison across all categories. The opening sentence about the table is also a fragment beginning with “While,” which interrupts the flow. Group the information more systematically—for example, first compare the highest-earning categories, then describe the remaining categories—and use references and transitions to make the relationships between figures clearer.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “export,” “categories,” “increased,” and “export earning,” and attempt more formal expressions such as “in contrast” and “played their role.” However, several choices are unnatural or imprecise, including “the proportion of these categories,” “stimulating numbers,” and “share of gems and jewellery down to 0.81%.” The table reports percentage changes in export values, not category proportions or shares. Spelling errors such as “form” and “beacuse” also reduce accuracy. Aim for precise chart language and natural collocations, such as “export earnings rose” or “recorded a decrease,” and check spelling before submitting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

There is an attempt to use both simple and more complex forms, including the contrast introduced by “While” and the causal phrase “due to the fact that.” However, control is inconsistent, and several errors make the sentences awkward or difficult to follow. For example, “the earning obtained by these export has primarily came” has problems with number and verb form, while “their export have also increase” contains agreement and tense errors. The opening “While” clause is not joined to a complete main clause. Work on subject–verb agreement, past-tense forms, and complete sentence construction; simpler, accurately controlled sentences would make the comparisons clearer.
