Student answer (Band 4.5)

The table illustrates the information about the value of one country's exports in various categories during 2015 and 2016. It shows the percentage change in each category of exports in 2015 and 2016.

Overall, the export of the petroleum products remained at higher proportion in both years. Export in textiles category was at the least proportion over the years. Export of agricultural products was at the same figure in the both years.

In 2015, export of petroleum products accounted for $70 billions. In the next year, it goes to approxiemately $72 billions. There was 8.5% increased fo engineered goods in both years. In 2015, the export of germs and jewellery was almost $53 billions. Whereas in 2016, it slightly decreased to $50 billions. The export of agriculture products was remained same in boith years.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5

You identify the broad topic and give an overview, noting that petroleum products were the largest category and agricultural exports were unchanged. However, several key figures and trends are inaccurate: petroleum exports were about $61 billion and $63 billion, not $70 billion and $72 billion, while gems and jewellery were about $43 billion and $41 billion, not $53 billion and $50 billion. The claim that textiles were the smallest category is also incorrect for 2016, when textiles and agriculture were both about $31 billion. The response ends before describing textiles and gives little accurate comparison across categories. It is also 32 words below the 150-word minimum; 18 words copied from the prompt were excluded from the count. These omissions and misreadings leave the task only partially addressed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and a paragraph beginning with details for 2015. The overview also groups some information by broad features, such as the highest category and unchanged agricultural exports. However, the progression is incomplete: the final line, “Textile products,” is an unfinished fragment, and there is no developed comparison of the remaining categories. Linking is limited, with “In the next year” and “Whereas” doing most of the work, and “Whereas” does not form a complete sentence here. Organise the details into complete paragraphs, compare related categories together, and use clear links such as “by contrast” or “meanwhile” to guide the reader through the data.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “exports,” “accounted for,” “category,” and “decreased,” so the subject is generally clear. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate: “higher proportion” is not a natural way to describe the largest export value, and “export of agriculture products” is imprecise. Spelling errors such as “approxiemately,” “germs,” and “boith” also reduce accuracy; “germs” changes the meaning of “gems.” Repetition of “export” and “products” further limits flexibility. Build a more precise range for describing values and changes, and check spelling and collocations carefully before submitting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

Most sentences use simple structures, and the opening sentence communicates the topic clearly. There is an attempt to use a more complex contrast with “Whereas,” but it is left as a fragment rather than joined to a main clause. Verb forms and sentence patterns are often inaccurate: “it goes to” should use a past form for the 2016 figure, “There was 8.5% increased” has an incorrect construction, and “was remained same” uses an unsuitable passive form. Articles and number forms also need attention, as in “in the both years” and “$70 billions.” These recurring errors make some statements awkward or unclear. Practise accurate past-tense comparisons and complete complex sentences.
