Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You identify the main pattern that petroleum and engineered goods were the leading export categories, and you note that textiles had the largest percentage increase while gems and jewellery declined. This gives the response a relevant overview and covers the key comparison. However, some details are unclear or inaccurate: agricultural products and textiles were the lowest categories, but textiles rose from about $26 billion to $31 billion, while agricultural exports stayed around $31 billion. The sentence suggesting there was “no significant increase” after reaching around $43 billion confuses these lower categories with gems and jewellery, which fell from about $43 billion to $41 billion. To strengthen the response further, report the main figures more precisely and explain the contrast between absolute export values and percentage changes.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable four-part structure: an introduction, an overview, and two detail paragraphs. This helps the reader follow the broad organisation, and transitions such as “However” and “Moving further” show an attempt to connect points. At times, though, the progression is weakened by unclear references and links. For example, “no significant increased had occured after the reached around 43 billion” does not make clear which category is being discussed, and “In additional” is not an accurate linking phrase. The detail paragraphs also mix categories in ways that make comparisons harder to track. Grouping the figures by high- and low-value categories, then clearly naming each category when describing changes, would make the cohesion more reliable.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You attempt a range of task-related vocabulary, including “exports,” “percentage,” “dominated,” “surge,” and “fall,” and you use some appropriate terms to describe trends. However, spelling and word-choice errors are frequent enough to make parts of the report difficult to understand, as in “sepcific,” “catedories,” “drowp down,” and “maket value.” Several expressions are also unnatural or imprecise: “different proportions” does not describe the dollar values shown, and “surge rised” is redundant. Aim for accurate, conventional collocations and check spelling carefully. Phrases such as “export earnings,” “recorded an increase,” and “remained stable” would describe the data more clearly and naturally.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You use both simple statements and some longer structures, including a contrast with “whereas” and a relative clause beginning “which showed fall.” However, control is inconsistent, and errors in agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence construction sometimes obscure meaning. For example, “The bar and table illustrates” has a subject–verb agreement problem, while “by 2015 to 2016” and “By end of 2016 there had a small amount in value added” are not well-formed grammatical patterns. Punctuation also creates run-on or awkwardly joined sentences, particularly around “in both, By end of 2016.” Practise accurate past-tense reporting and build longer sentences from clearly controlled clauses before adding more complex structures.
