Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You identify the chart’s subject and report several relevant comparisons, including petroleum as the highest-earning category and textiles as having the largest percentage increase. However, the response only partially summarises the data: it gives few actual earnings figures, and the overview that “most of the products are increasing” overlooks that gems and jewellery fell from about $43 billion to $41 billion. The statement that engineered goods “also performed in 2016” is unclear, and “5.18 less” does not specify that this category decreased. The percentage changes for textiles and gems are presented without the % sign. The response is also six words below the required minimum. Include a clear overview and accurate figures and directions of change for the main categories.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response has a basic sequence: it introduces the chart, discusses categories, and ends with a general comparison. This gives the reader some sense of organisation, and phrases such as “If we look at percentage” signal a shift in focus. However, the body reads largely as a list, with limited grouping or development of comparisons. Connections are sometimes unclear, particularly “These two were the most exported increase in 2016. As well in 2015,” and the final paragraph repeats the point about textiles and petroleum rather than extending the overview. Use a separate, concise overview and group categories by whether earnings rose, fell, or stayed broadly stable; clearer linking between comparisons would improve progression.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “export earnings,” “percentage,” and the names of all five product categories, so the reader can generally follow the subject. However, the range is limited and several choices or forms are inaccurate or awkward, such as “most exported increase,” “performed,” and “product to earning the most.” Spelling errors including “Enggineered,” “incraeing,” and “increse” are noticeable, while “5.18 less” and “15.24” omit the unit needed to express percentage changes clearly. These issues sometimes make the intended comparison harder to understand. Aim for precise reporting language such as “rose by,” “declined by,” and “accounted for the highest export value,” and check spelling and percentage notation.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
Most sentences use simple structures, and some basic meaning is conveyed, for example, “Petroleum products earnings were higher in 2016.” There are also attempts to connect ideas with “with” and “but.” However, the range is limited, and errors recur in sentence construction and tense or agreement. In “Petroleum products earnings were higher in 2016 compared 2015,” the comparison needs a grammatical link (“compared with 2015”). “Textiles is the fifth product” has a subject–verb agreement error, and “This product earning increased” lacks a correctly formed verb phrase. Punctuation and spacing are also inconsistent. Practise accurate comparative clauses and past-tense reporting structures, then proofread each sentence for a complete verb and correct agreement.
