Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify the two years and the export categories, and your final sentence recognises the main direction of change and the decline in gems and jewellery. However, several figures are misreported: the chart gives approximate 2015 values of $61bn for petroleum, $57bn for engineered goods, $43bn for gems, $31bn for agriculture and $26bn for textiles, not the figures you provide. You also give percentage changes as if they were 2016 export values, and say all other categories increased without clearly comparing their actual earnings. The response is also 34 words below the 150-word minimum, limiting the detail available. Include a clear overview and accurate comparisons of the main values and changes.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic, recognisable structure: an introduction, a paragraph about 2015, a paragraph about changes in 2016, and a concluding sentence. This helps the reader follow the broad topic. However, progression is limited because the 2016 paragraph lists percentage changes without connecting them clearly to the export values, and the conclusion largely repeats the preceding claim. Linking phrases such as “In 2016” and “To conclude” are used, but the relationships between figures and trends remain unclear. Organise the body around meaningful comparisons—for example, the highest and lowest earnings, followed by the largest increase and the sole decline—and use references such as “this category” only when their meaning is clear.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “export earnings,” “percentage change,” and the category names, so the subject is generally identifiable. However, the range is limited and several spelling errors are noticeable, including “catagory,” “petrolium,” “engibeered,” “coclude,” and “previos.” Some expressions are also imprecise or unnatural, such as “are increase the value of export” and “decrease value compare than.” Use accurate terms such as “rose,” “fell,” “export value,” and “compared with,” and check spelling carefully. More precise vocabulary would also help distinguish the dollar amounts from percentage changes, which are currently confused in the description.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
Most sentences are simple, and the response shows some ability to connect ideas, but grammatical control is inconsistent. The opening “This graph show” has a subject–verb agreement error, while “In 2015 … exported” lacks a clear grammatical subject and does not form a complete, natural report of the figures. In the next paragraph, “are increase” and “gems and jewellery is … decrease” use incorrect verb forms and agreement. Comparisons are also faulty in “compare than the 2015.” These errors sometimes make the intended relationships difficult to interpret. Practise accurate past-tense reporting (“rose,” “fell,” “stood at”) and build complete comparison sentences, while checking articles, agreement and punctuation.
