Student answer (Band 6.0)
The graph shows the value denoted in billions of one country's export in various categories and shows the percentage change in each category of exports in 2016 compared with 2015.
Petroleum products is overall the most lucrative export venture for the country at over 60 billion closely followed by Engineered goods which is around 60 billion. The gems and jewellery comes next and is around the 50 billion mark. The agricultural products and textiles comed last and are around the same mark at 40 billion.
The percentage change in values in 2015 compared to 2016 showed that Petroleum products had a 3 percent rise. The engineered goods showed a 8.5 percent rise and gems and jewellery showed a 5.18 percent decrease as compared to the previous year. Agricultural products showed a 0.81 percent increase while textiles showed the biggest increase at 15.24 percent.
Overall we can conclude that the Textile industry showed a boom in 2016 while the gems and jewellery industry showed the biggest decline.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the main categories and report the percentage changes, including the largest rise in textiles and the decline in gems and jewellery. However, several chart values and comparisons are inaccurate: gems and jewellery was about $43 billion, not around $50 billion, while agriculture and textiles were about $31 billion each, not around $40 billion. The overview also says textiles and agriculture were at the same mark, although their 2015 values differed and textiles rose in 2016. Your final summary of the strongest increase and the decline is relevant, but the key export-value pattern needs more accurate reporting and clearer comparison. The response addresses the task, though some features are less fully and accurately presented than others.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, a paragraph describing export values, a paragraph on percentage changes, and a concluding overview. This makes the information generally easy to follow. However, the progression is somewhat mechanical, with repeated use of “showed” and a list-like presentation of the percentage changes. The opening description of the chart is followed by imprecise comparisons, and the final “Overall” sentence repeats a point already made rather than synthesising both the export values and changes. Use clearer grouping—for example, compare the two highest-value categories, then the lower ones—and link the overview directly to the main patterns. This would make the organisation more purposeful and cohesion less repetitive.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of task-related vocabulary, including “percentage change,” “rise,” “increase,” “decline,” and “lucrative.” These choices help communicate the main trends. Some wording is imprecise or unnatural for describing a chart: “export venture” is not a natural label for a product category, and “showed a boom” overstates a measured increase. “The gems and jewellery comes next” also uses an awkward expression, while “denoted in billions” is less direct than standard chart language. Aim for precise reporting verbs and neutral descriptions such as “recorded,” “stood at,” and “rose by.” Your meaning remains clear overall, but more accurate collocations and a consistently formal register would strengthen the vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more developed sentence forms, and most of the message remains understandable. Some grammatical errors are noticeable, particularly in agreement and verb forms. For example, “Petroleum products is” should be “Petroleum products are,” and “The agricultural products and textiles comed last” contains both an unnecessary article and an incorrect past-tense form. In “The percentage change … showed,” the subject is singular, but the sentence’s time comparison is expressed awkwardly; use a clear construction such as “The figures show the percentage changes from 2015 to 2016.” There is also inconsistent capitalisation of category names. Check subject–verb agreement, past-tense forms, and sentence phrasing, while continuing to vary sentence structures.
