Student answer (Band 5.0)

The bar char illustrates the value of one country's exports in various categories during 2015 and 2016. It also represents the ratio change in each category of exports in 2016 comparison to 2015.

overall, petroleum products ranked highest in 2015 and 2016 as well, in contrast textiles was the lowest among other export products in 2015 and 2016. However, this trend followed downward direction.

First of all, in the year 2015, the value of petroleum products was 60 billions dollar, whereas almost 65 billions dollar in 2016. In case of engineered goods, it decreased slightly which cause it to ranked under 60 billions dollar likely, 58 billions dollar in 2015, while in the year 2016, it was about 61 billions dollar.

The export product of gems and jwellery category declined to aproximately 55 billions in 2015, likewise 50 billions in the year 2016. Regarding agricultural products in both years remained similar around 40 billions dollar. The value of textiles was almost 41 billions in 2016, whereas about 35 billions dollar in 2015.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify the chart’s subject and make an attempt at an overview, noting that petroleum was the leading category and textiles the lowest in 2015. However, the overview is inaccurate for 2016: textiles rose to about the same level as agricultural products, rather than remaining the lowest, and the claim that the overall trend was downward is not supported. Several figures are substantially misread: gems and jewellery were about $43 billion in 2015 and $41 billion in 2016, not $55 billion and $50 billion; textiles were about $26 billion and $31 billion, not $35 billion and $41 billion. The response therefore reports only some relevant features and comparisons, with important inaccuracies and limited coverage of the table’s percentage changes.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response has a basic paragraph structure: an introduction, an overview, and two paragraphs of category details. This gives the reader some sense of organisation, and comparisons such as “whereas” help connect figures. However, the progression is not consistently clear. The overview’s statement that the trend “followed downward direction” conflicts with the later figures and is not explained. In the detail paragraphs, categories are grouped without a clear organising principle, and “likewise” does not clearly show the relationship between the two gems-and-jewellery figures. Use a more systematic sequence, such as reporting the largest categories first and then the smaller ones, and make each comparison explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “exports,” “category,” “declined,” and “remained similar,” so the topic is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or awkward, such as “ratio change” for percentage change, “ranked highest,” and “followed downward direction.” Spelling errors in “jwellery” and “aproximately” also reduce accuracy. Some expressions, including “billions dollar,” are not natural ways to describe the units. Aim for precise chart language such as “export value,” “percentage change,” “stood at,” and “rose to,” and check spelling and collocations before submitting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt a mixture of simple statements and longer comparisons, for example, “The value of textiles was almost 41 billions in 2016, whereas about 35 billions dollar in 2015.” However, the second clause is incomplete because it has no verb, and several other sentences contain faulty structures. In “it decreased slightly which cause it to ranked,” the verb forms and clause construction are incorrect; “in 2016 comparison to 2015” also has an inaccurate prepositional pattern. Articles, plurals, and agreement are inconsistent, as in “60 billions dollar” and “overall” beginning a sentence without a capital. These errors sometimes make relationships difficult to follow. Practise complete comparative clauses and accurate past-tense forms.
