Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
You identify the chart and table and attempt an overview by noting that petroleum products and engineered goods are the largest categories. However, the response reports very little of the data and does not cover the main comparisons across all five categories. The claim that the leading categories reach “about 60 and 70” is inaccurate: their values are approximately $61–63 billion and $57–62 billion, not $70 billion. You also say both rose by about 3%, although engineered goods increased by 8.5%. The remaining categories and their changes are not described. The response is also 60 words below the required minimum, leaving the task substantially incomplete. Include a clear overview and accurate figures and trends for the other categories.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is a basic attempt to organise the response into an introduction, an overview and a detail paragraph, and “Overall” and “In detail” signal the intended progression. This gives the reader some structure. However, the final paragraph stops abruptly, so the information does not develop into a complete account, and the overview combines several categories in a way that makes comparisons difficult to follow. Punctuation and spacing also weaken the flow, as in “2016.the table” and “Overall,it”. Build a fuller sequence: introduce the visuals, summarise the main pattern, then compare the categories with supporting figures. Use clear sentence boundaries and linking phrases to show how each comparison relates to the overview.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “bar chart”, “table”, “exports”, “categories” and “percentage change”, so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is narrow and several word choices or spellings make the meaning unclear. “Importance of one country’s exports” is not an accurate way to describe export values, while “rich the large some” appears to be an unsuccessful attempt to express a rise or a high figure. There are also spelling and transcription errors such as “diffrent”, “En gineered” and “bi ions”. Use precise terms such as “export earnings”, “value”, “rose” and “declined”, and check spelling and collocations before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts a few sentence forms, including a compound overview beginning “Overall, it can be seen that…”, and the basic meaning is partly recoverable. However, control is inconsistent: the opening joins two sentences with a full stop followed by a lowercase “the”, and the final sentence has an incomplete or unclear structure after “increase”. Missing spaces and punctuation, such as “2016.the” and “Overall,it”, also make the text harder to read. The response relies mainly on simple statements and does not show secure control of comparisons or past-tense reporting. Practise complete sentences with accurate subjects and verbs, for example, “Petroleum earnings rose from $61 billion in 2015 to $63 billion in 2016.”
