Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the main categories and include several relevant comparisons, such as petroleum products being the largest export and textiles having the lowest earnings in 2015. However, the overview is incomplete: it does not mention the notable rise in textiles or that gems and jewellery declined. Several figures are also inaccurate: for example, gems and jewellery were about $43 billion in 2015 and $41 billion in 2016, not $50 billion and $48 billion; engineered goods were about $57 billion and $62 billion, rather than $55 billion and $60 billion. The table’s textile change of 15.24% is omitted. To strengthen the response, give a more complete overview and report the key figures and changes accurately.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, an overview, a paragraph describing the bar chart, and a final paragraph on the table. This makes the information easy to follow. Linking expressions such as “In addition,” “However,” and “Furthermore” help connect comparisons, although some transitions feel formulaic, and “Probing ahead” does not clearly signal a new comparison. The final paragraph also leaves the textile percentage change unreported, so the coverage feels unfinished. For stronger progression, group the main increases and decreases together, then summarise the table’s changes in a consistent order. Ensure each linking phrase expresses the relationship between the figures that follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use a reasonable range of task-related vocabulary, including “export earnings,” “percentage change,” “decline,” and “similar values,” and the meaning is generally clear. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “From an overall analysis” and “As further scrutiny reveals,” but these expressions sound unnatural or overly elaborate in this context. Some collocations are inaccurate, including “earnings were exported” and “the petroleum products were changed.” Use direct, precise language to describe the data, such as “export earnings from petroleum products rose” or “the value of textiles increased.” More accurate category terms and natural collocations would make the report clearer and more controlled.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, and most of the intended comparisons remain understandable. However, some grammatical errors recur. For example, “the petroleum products were stood at” uses an incorrect verb form, while “an agricultural products” has an article and plural mismatch. The opening “While, the table depicts…” is an incomplete clause, and commas are sometimes placed incorrectly after introductory or linking expressions. There are also problems with countable forms and sentence construction in phrases such as “each categories.” Review verb patterns, articles, singular and plural agreement, and punctuation around subordinate clauses. More consistently accurate sentence structures would help you express the comparisons with greater clarity.
