Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
The response identifies one relevant feature: petroleum products had the highest export earnings, at just over $60 billion, and rose in 2016. However, it reports almost none of the remaining chart or table, so the main comparisons and overall pattern are missing. In particular, it does not mention that engineered goods also increased, textiles showed the largest percentage rise, or gems and jewellery declined. The statement that petroleum earnings increased is accurate, but the response gives no overview covering the categories as a whole. It is also substantially below the required 150 words. To improve, summarise the main trends across all five categories and support them with selected figures.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
There is a basic sequence: the opening introduces the chart, followed by a sentence about petroleum products. The phrase “First of all” signals a transition, and the reader can follow the limited information presented. However, the response has no developed paragraph structure or progression through the categories, and it ends without a concluding overview. The linking phrase does not lead into further comparisons, while the ideas remain confined to one category. Organise the report into an introduction, an overview of the main trends, and a body comparing the categories. Use clear links such as “By contrast” or “Meanwhile” to show how the figures relate.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The response uses a small set of relevant terms, including “petroleum products,” “highest earnings,” and “increases,” which communicate the basic point. However, the vocabulary is very limited for describing a table and chart, and several spelling or word-form errors are noticeable: “catagorie's” and “through out.” The phrase “the earning above 60 billions $” is also imprecise and awkward; “earnings exceeded $60 billion” would be more natural. Expand the range of comparison language, such as “rose slightly,” “remained stable,” “recorded the largest increase,” and “declined,” and use accurate category names and units throughout.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response relies on short, simple sentence patterns, so it shows little grammatical variety. There are errors in the opening sentence: “This chart give” should be “This chart gives,” and “through out the years 2015 and 2016” would be more accurately expressed as “between 2015 and 2016.” The sentence beginning “Petroleum products have the earning…” also has awkward article and number choices, and the present tense “increases” is inconsistent with describing completed data from 2015 and 2016; use “increased.” Punctuation spacing is also missing after “catagories.” Practise accurate past-tense reporting and combine comparisons using controlled clauses, for example, “While petroleum earnings rose, gems and jewellery fell.”
