Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
You identify the main categories and attempt an overview by noting that petroleum products are highest and textiles lowest. However, the overview is incomplete, and several figures and trends do not match the chart: for example, gems and jewellery were about $43 billion in 2015, not $52 billion, and the 2016 increases are assigned to the wrong categories. The response also stops before reporting the 2016 figures for agricultural products and textiles, so the comparison is substantially incomplete. The required minimum of 150 words is not met: the response contains 109 words, with 19 copied from the prompt excluded from the count. To improve, give an accurate overview of the main rises and fall, then compare the key figures across both years.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
There is a basic attempt to organise the response into an introduction, an overview and year-by-year details. The phrases “Overall,” “In 2015” and “in 2016” help signal the stages of the description, and the categories are presented in a generally understandable order. However, the final paragraph ends abruptly after “decreased with 5,” leaving the account unfinished and weakening progression. Some sentences also combine several figures without clear punctuation, making comparisons harder to follow. Use complete paragraphs and finish the description; within each paragraph, group the categories by trend or compare the two years directly. A short concluding comparison is not essential, but the main information should be fully and logically presented.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The response uses relevant task vocabulary such as “export earnings,” “percentage change,” “increased” and “decreased,” so the reader can recognise the topic and intended comparisons. However, the range is limited and several word choices or forms are inaccurate or repeated. “The value of one country exports” is not a natural possessive phrase, while “exort” and “eport” are misspellings that reduce clarity. The repeated “earned” is also less suitable for describing the value of a product category’s exports; “was valued at” or “generated” would be more precise. Use standard forms such as “billions” and vary the language for describing values and changes. More accurate collocations would make the report clearer and more appropriate to an academic chart summary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt both an overview sentence and longer sentences containing several comparisons, but grammatical control is inconsistent. For example, “The given table illustrate” has a subject–verb agreement error, and “the petroleum products increase in 8.5% earned” combines an incorrect verb form with an unclear sentence structure. The opening also needs a possessive construction in “one country exports,” and the final sentence is incomplete. Most sentences follow a simple pattern, with little evidence of controlled complex structures. Practise accurate past-tense reporting and agreement, and use clear patterns such as “Exports of petroleum products rose from … to …”. Check articles, plurals and punctuation, and ensure every sentence is complete before adding further detail.
