Student answer (Band 4.5)
The chart demonstrates the value of nations export in different fields during 2015and 2016. The table shows the proportional variation in each field of export in 2016 compared with 2015.
Overall,it can be seen that in 2015 only gems and jewellery is the most demanding product but in 2016 pertrolum, engineering goods and textiles contribute to the country economy and exports.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
The response identifies the two years and refers to several export categories, but it does not accurately summarise the main features. The overview claims gems and jewellery was the leading product in 2015, whereas petroleum products were highest; it also says engineering goods decreased in 2015, which does not describe the comparison shown. Some figures are substantially inaccurate: petroleum is given as $50 billion rather than about $61 billion in 2015, and the response does not clearly report the key 2016 values or the percentage changes. The statement that textiles “increases in 0rather 2016” is unclear. The response is also 11 words below the required minimum. Select the highest and lowest categories, describe the overall changes accurately, and support these points with relevant figures.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is a basic attempt to organise the response with an introduction, an overview, and a body paragraph. Sequencing phrases such as “Overall,” “First of all,” and “At the end” signal movement between points. However, the progression is difficult to follow because the overview is inaccurate and the body shifts between categories without a clear comparison or consistent structure. For example, “Firstly we discuss about petrolium products” is followed by engineering, gems, agriculture, and textiles in one long passage. Some linking expressions, including “while other hand” and “Furthermore,” do not clearly connect the ideas that follow. Use separate, logically ordered comparisons—such as the largest categories first, then the smaller ones—and make each sentence’s relationship to the previous point explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The response uses some task-relevant vocabulary, including “exports,” “categories,” “revenue,” “increases,” and “remain same,” so the topic is generally recognisable. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “proportional variation.” However, word choice and spelling are often inaccurate or unnatural: “nations export,” “most demanding product,” and “contribute to the country economy” do not express the intended chart meanings precisely. Several category names are misspelled, including “pertrolum,” “petrolium,” and “agricultral,” and “increases in 0rather” is not interpretable. Aim for precise chart language such as “export earnings,” “recorded the highest value,” and “rose by,” and check spelling of the labels.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts both simple and more extended sentence forms, and the main topic can usually be understood. However, grammatical control is inconsistent, particularly in sentence construction, agreement, articles, and punctuation. Examples include “in 2015 only gems and jewellery is the most demanding product,” where the tense and comparison structure are faulty, and “engineering goods which decreases in 2015 and increases during financial year 2016 and earn 60 billion,” which is an incomplete and poorly controlled sentence. Missing spaces after commas and full stops also make the text harder to read. Use complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, maintain past tense when describing the data, and check agreement and sentence boundaries. A wider range of structures will be more effective once these basic patterns are controlled.
