Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the chart’s general subject and include several relevant categories and percentage changes, so the response is partly on task. However, the overview is unclear and some key comparisons are inaccurate. For example, petroleum exports are about $61 billion and $63 billion, not 60% and 70%; the chart reports dollar values, not percentages. Gems and jewellery are about $43 billion and $41 billion, rather than 50 and 48, while agricultural exports are around $31 billion in both years, not 40% to 38%. You also give agricultural growth as 0.18%, whereas the table shows 0.81%. State the main pattern accurately: petroleum and engineered goods were the largest earners, while textiles had the strongest percentage rise and gems declined.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic structure, moving from an introduction and overview to discussion of the chart and then the percentage changes. Paragraphing and signposts such as “First” and “Finally” help the reader see these sections. However, progression within the paragraphs is difficult to follow because several categories and comparisons are crowded together, and some links are unclear. For instance, “engin goods exports earning ratio is similar to petrolium products in imports industry” does not clearly explain the comparison. The repeated use of “exports earning” and “both years” also makes the account feel repetitive. Group the figures into clear comparisons—largest categories, lower categories, and percentage changes—and use accurate references to connect each point.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You attempt task-related vocabulary, including “percentage change,” “exports,” “increased,” and “drop,” and these choices show awareness of the chart’s subject. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations make the meaning unclear. “Imports industry” is inappropriate because the chart concerns exports, while “worth of exports” and “exports earning ratio” are awkward ways to describe export values. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “petrolium,” “falctute,” and “disscuss.” Use precise terms consistently, such as “export earnings,” “value,” “rose,” and “fell,” and check spelling before submitting. Avoid calling dollar figures percentages: this confuses the data as well as the vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You use some longer sentence forms to compare years and categories, but attempts at complex sentences are often faulty, and errors occur frequently enough to make parts of the response difficult to interpret. For example, “Overall it evident that” is missing a verb, and “the petrolium products are similar in both year” has problems with agreement and number. The sentence beginning “First, In 2015 to 2016” also combines several ideas without clear grammatical control. Articles, verb forms, plurals, and punctuation are inconsistent. Practise writing shorter, complete comparison sentences first—for example, “Petroleum earnings rose from about $61 billion in 2015 to $63 billion in 2016”—then add a second sentence for the percentage change.
