Student answer (Band 5.5)

The status of women in many societies have greatly changes over the period of 50 years but many societies cannot surely state that they acheived a gender equality. I agree with this statement. This essay will discuss this view and give appropriate reasons behind it.

The main reason is people's thoughts. Many people still believe women to be inferior to men. Some narcissists cannot bear women to sit equally with them in any profession. For example, some people cannot bear women to be their boss in the office. They think women are unable to handle business and unable to make tough decisions. That's why they always try o object to their decisions and suppress them. Another reason is that many chores are associated specifically with gender. For example, women have to cook, clean and take care of men's desires, while men have to work and earn for his family. That's true but this does not mean associating a particular task to someone. Men can also cook, clean and take care of women. Women can also be financially stable and support their husbands financially.

Many underdeveloped countries face this gender bias. This is because of lack of knowledge. Women are always associated with burdens. They are not sent to school because they will not work in the future. Their only goal is to get married. This is due to lack of literacy, awareness, and social pressure.

In conclusion, Women should be supported to work equally with men. women have potential to work equally as men.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your position is clear: “I agree with this statement,” and the response gives relevant reasons, including workplace prejudice, gendered domestic roles, and barriers to girls’ education. These examples show why social change has not produced equality everywhere. However, the discussion is only partly developed. The opening promises to discuss the view but does not define what equality would involve, and the points about workplace discrimination and education are asserted broadly rather than supported with specific evidence or a fuller explanation. The conclusion repeats that women should be supported but does not draw together the reasons or clarify the extent of your agreement. Develop fewer points in greater depth and connect each one explicitly to the claim that equality remains unachieved.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion. The ideas are generally grouped sensibly: workplace attitudes and household roles appear together, followed by educational barriers. Basic links such as “For example,” “Another reason,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the argument. However, progression between points is sometimes abrupt: the discussion moves from domestic chores to underdeveloped countries without explaining how the second point extends the argument. Some linking is mechanical, and references such as “That’s true” are unclear because it is not obvious which preceding claim is being accepted. Use clearer topic sentences and transitions that show the relationship between each reason, and ensure the conclusion synthesises the argument rather than simply repeating it.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “gender bias,” “inferior,” “social pressure,” and “financially stable.” There are also attempts at more specific expressions, such as “handle business” and “make tough decisions.” However, the range is limited and some choices or collocations are inaccurate or awkward, which can make the argument less precise. For example, “a gender equality” is not the natural form, “object to their decisions” does not clearly express the intended idea, and “take care of men’s desires” is vague and potentially misleading. Spelling errors such as “acheived” and “o” also reduce accuracy. Build a more precise vocabulary for discrimination, employment and unpaid care, and check spelling and common word partnerships.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including clauses with “because,” “while” and “that,” and most of the argument remains understandable. However, errors occur frequently across basic sentence patterns and sometimes make the meaning less clear. For instance, “The status of women … have greatly changes” has problems with subject–verb agreement and verb form; “men have to work and earn for his family” has a pronoun-agreement error; and “women to be their boss” has an incorrect grammatical form. There are also inconsistent capitalisation and punctuation choices, such as the lower-case “women” after a full stop in the conclusion. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement, verb forms, articles and pronoun reference, then proofread each sentence before adding more complex structures.
