Student answer (Band 5.5)

The status of women in society has greatly changed over half a century; still there is gender bias among men and women in many societies. I agree with this statement, as there is still gender inequality around the world.

Over 50 years, women have achieved a specific role in society. Women get an equal chance of getting an education even for higher education, take part in politics, work in male-dominated sectors, can dream and work to fulfill their dream. This was not possible in past as women was not given the right for education or work and they were suppressed in society. But nowadays, women can work side by side with men without being judged. For example, she can work in healthcare, as an engineer or choose any profession she likes.

Apart from all of that, women are still not given gender equality. The pay gap is one example. Women can work day and night but still cannot earn as much as men. Some narcissistic men try to suppress them. Women are associated with other duties such as household chores, children responsibilities. Apart from this, she still earns less than man.

In conclusion, women have a role in society but there are many areas where there is still gender bias.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your position is clear from the introduction: you agree that changes in women’s status have not produced equality. You address both sides by mentioning improved access to education, work and politics, then contrasting these gains with unequal pay and domestic expectations. However, several points remain general or are asserted without explanation—for example, “Some narcissistic men try to suppress them” does not show how this affects equality. The conclusion repeats the main view but does not draw together the reasons. The response also falls 40 words short of the required minimum, limiting the space available to develop examples and explain your claims. Add a specific example and extend each main point with its consequences.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, a paragraph about progress, a paragraph about continuing inequality, and a conclusion. This makes the overall argument easy to follow. However, progression within the body paragraphs is limited, and several ideas are listed rather than connected and explained. The repeated transitions “Apart from all of that” and “Apart from this” are mechanical, while the latter introduces a point about lower earnings that has already appeared. The reference in “she still earns less” also shifts from the general plural “women” to a singular pronoun. Group related points, use clearer links between cause and example, and avoid repeating the same claim to make the argument flow more effectively.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “gender bias,” “male-dominated sectors,” “pay gap” and “household chores,” so the reader can understand the main ideas. There is some variety in how you describe women’s changing opportunities. However, the range is limited and some expressions are imprecise or unnatural, such as “achieved a specific role,” “fulfill their dream” and “children responsibilities.” “Narcissistic men” is also an overly specific and unsupported label for the point you are making. Aim for more precise collocations and a suitably formal tone, and avoid repeating “women” and “society” where a clear alternative is available. These improvements would make your argument more fluent and exact.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You communicate your main points using mostly straightforward sentences, and you attempt some longer structures, such as “This was not possible in past as…” and “Women can work day and night but still…”. However, control is inconsistent, particularly with agreement, articles and plural forms. For example, “women was not given” should be “women were not given,” and “children responsibilities” needs a possessive form, such as “children’s responsibilities.” In “less than man,” the article or plural is missing; use “less than men” or “less than a man,” depending on the intended meaning. The sentence “Women get an equal chance of getting an education even for higher education” is also awkwardly constructed. Practise accurate agreement and article use, and vary sentence patterns while keeping them controlled.
