Student answer (Band 6.5)

It is an undeniable fact that women development in societies is increasing rapidly in today's contemporary epoch. Women have gained greater rights and opportunities but there are some factors where women did not achieved the equality. I largely agree that true gender equality is has not fully achieved.

To embark with, comparing to the past, women has achieved many things like basic education, job facilities and financial independence. To exemplify, during 19th century women's were not allowed to have primary education. Nowadays, women's are capable to become the nation leader and have their interests in politics. There was a time when women use to make food at home and now they are capable to run a company. Women equally raise their voice against the discrimination because they have the knowledge of legal protection. Women has achieved their basic right for the education which gives them more work opportunities to become financial independent.

Many people believe that women's have obtain their equality but there are some places where women's are not treated equally as men. At some work places, women's are not paid equally as men is paid for the same work. In many households women's are not allowed to make important decision. Women face the discrimination and harassment at worksite. Some societies have cultural stereotypes which stops the women to share their opinions on some topic. Due to such cultural rules, women have limited work opportunities.

To conclude, the change over the past 5 decades has brought a significant change in women's lifestyle but there are some barriers which stops the women's growth. I believe that government and society should work to achieve true gender equality.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, providing a clear position that acknowledges progress while arguing that equality remains incomplete. The ideas are relevant and supported by examples, such as the mention of education and political leadership versus the persistence of the gender pay gap and domestic decision-making. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat repetitive and could be more nuanced. To reach a higher band, ensure that each paragraph introduces a distinct, well-elaborated point rather than listing similar examples. The conclusion effectively summarises the stance, ensuring the position is maintained throughout the essay.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organised into clear paragraphs, with an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To embark with', 'To exemplify', and 'To conclude', though some of these transitions are slightly mechanical or non-standard (e.g., 'To embark with' is not a common idiomatic opening). The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the referencing is occasionally repetitive, particularly the frequent use of 'women's' or 'women' at the start of consecutive sentences. Improving the variety of linking words and using more sophisticated referencing would enhance the flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express ideas clearly. There is an attempt to use topic-specific language like 'contemporary epoch', 'discrimination', and 'cultural stereotypes'. However, there are several instances of word-choice errors and awkward collocations, such as 'women development' instead of 'women's development' and 'job facilities' instead of 'employment opportunities'. Additionally, there is a recurring issue with the misuse of the possessive apostrophe (e.g., 'women's are', 'women's have obtain'). While these errors do not impede communication, they limit the score as they demonstrate a lack of precision in word form.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly regarding subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'women has achieved', 'women's are not paid') and the misuse of articles or plurals. The incorrect use of the apostrophe in plural nouns is a consistent error throughout the text. While the meaning remains clear, these persistent errors in basic grammar prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. To improve, focus on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and ensuring that plural nouns do not contain unnecessary apostrophes.
