Student answer (Band 7.5)
Women hold an equal significance in the world but they have been marginalized due to patriarchy. It is often argued that the worth of women has increased over the last five decades in multiple parts of the world but gender equality is yet to be achieved. I agree with this stance because women in developed countries are stopped from getting high level promotions in multiple government sectors. Other than this, women are also deprived of equal wages like their male colleagues. This essay discusses both these points in detail before reaching a conclusion.
To begin with the argument, gender equality still seems a distant dream because women are not given promotions to higher governmental positions. The Invisible ceiling affect is regarded as the main reason behind this because women cannot progress to top posts due to their gender. For example, the United States has no female chief justice to this day, which shows women are not treated on equal basis like men. Thus, gender equality seems a distant reality.
Another point which represents the sorry state of women in progressive countries is the wage system, which pays men more than women. In multiple places, women and men are working together and they are doing the same level of tasks, but women are not paid equal to men because of their gender. For instance, in the Hollywood shows, lead roles are played by men and women but men get more pay as compared to women. Therefore, an unequal pay system becomes a hurdle in achieving gender equality in modern societies.
Concluding this discussion, although there is a considerable work done in last fifty years to lift the status of women in thriving societies, they still suffer due to their gender in achieving top positions in state machinery and an equal pay at workplaces.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, maintaining a clear position throughout. The introduction sets the stage well, and the two body paragraphs provide relevant examples (US Chief Justice, Hollywood pay gaps) to support the argument. The ideas are extended, though the analysis could be slightly more nuanced to reach the highest bands. For instance, the discussion on 'state machinery' is a bit narrow. However, the response is well-focused, and the conclusion effectively synthesizes the main points. The development is logical and directly answers the 'to what extent' question by agreeing with the premise.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph has a central topic, and the transition between the introduction, body, and conclusion is smooth. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Another point', and 'Therefore' are used effectively to guide the reader. While the referencing is generally clear, some cohesive links are slightly repetitive or mechanical. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct arguments. Overall, the flow of the essay is consistent and easy to follow, meeting the requirements for a solid band 7.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
The vocabulary is sufficient for the task and allows for some precision. Phrases like 'marginalized', 'distant dream', and 'thriving societies' demonstrate a good range. There are some minor inaccuracies, such as 'Invisible ceiling affect' (should be 'effect') and 'on equal basis' (should be 'on an equal basis'). While the student attempts to use less common vocabulary, the control is not always perfect. However, the errors do not impede communication, and the range is adequate to convey the intended meaning clearly throughout the essay.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There is good control over basic grammar, and the meaning is always clear. However, there are persistent minor errors, such as 'women are not paid equal to men' (should be 'equally to men') and 'considerable work done in last fifty years' (missing 'the'). While the student attempts complex structures, these are occasionally marred by small grammatical slips. The punctuation is generally accurate, and the errors present do not cause difficulty for the reader, fitting the criteria for a band 6.5.
