Student answer (Band 8.0)
The position of women has changed significantly over time, but some believe that complete gender equality has not been achieved yet. In this essay, the improvement made by governments and areas that can be improved will be discussed.
First and foremost, it can be seen that females are having greater access to education and employment compared to the past. For instance, more parents are willing to support their daughters in terms of higher education opportunities, whereas the majority of people held the stereotype that only boys needed to further study a few decades ago. This improvement of the general public's awareness in turn enables more females to be able to work in a variety of industries, such as healthcare and science. Additionally, governments have introduced laws that prevent discrimination, and that promote equal opportunities in the workplace, encouraging females from showcasing their potential.
Nevertheless, it must be realized that there are still many aspects of women's welfare that are ignored, namely the gender pay gap. For example, in some developing countries, particularly in South Asia, women earn less than men for similar work, discouraging them from climbing the career ladder. In addition, females are generally underrepresented in most senior management positions. There are still a significant number of employers who assume that women cannot work as much as usual during their pregnancy and menstruation. That assumption, though, is unproven. Finally, in most families, women are still expected to take on more household responsibilities, such as domestic chores and childcare, which takes up a substantial amount of time and energy from them and therefore limits their career growth and financial independence.
In conclusion, I strongly agree that gender equality has not been achieved yet despite the improvement that has been made by governments. Regarding equal payment, promotion opportunities, and the role in households, these areas still require attention from society.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0
You have addressed all parts of the prompt, clearly stating your position that gender equality remains an unfinished goal. Your ideas are relevant and well-supported with examples, such as the mention of the gender pay gap and the societal expectations regarding domestic chores. The essay is balanced, acknowledging progress while highlighting persistent challenges. To reach a higher band, ensure that your introduction provides a more nuanced thesis statement that explicitly outlines the specific areas of inequality you intend to discuss, rather than just mentioning that areas can be improved. Overall, your response is well-developed and directly answers the question.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 8.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph has a central theme, and you use cohesive devices such as 'First and foremost', 'Additionally', 'Nevertheless', and 'In conclusion' effectively to guide the reader. The transition between the progress made and the remaining challenges is smooth. To improve, ensure that the referencing within sentences is always precise; for instance, in the second paragraph, the phrase 'that assumption, though, is unproven' is clear, but ensure that your pronoun references (e.g., 'which' or 'they') always point back to a clear antecedent to maintain perfect flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.5
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to discuss the topic with precision. Phrases like 'climbing the career ladder', 'financial independence', and 'underrepresented' are used appropriately. There is an attempt to use less common lexical items, which adds to the academic tone. To move into the higher bands, try to avoid slightly repetitive phrasing and aim for more sophisticated collocations. For example, instead of 'improvement made by governments', you could use 'legislative advancements' or 'policy interventions'. Your spelling is accurate throughout, and your word choice is generally natural and fits the context well.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures effectively. Most of your sentences are error-free, and your control over punctuation is good. There are occasional minor slips, such as 'encouraging females from showcasing their potential' (should be 'to showcase') and 'further study' (could be 'pursue further studies'). These errors are infrequent and do not impede communication. To achieve a higher score, incorporate a wider variety of complex grammatical structures, such as conditional sentences or more varied passive constructions, to demonstrate greater flexibility in your writing.
