Student answer (Band 7.0)

The position of women has changed dramatically in many societies over the las few decades. However, people argue that these societies havent achieved significant gender equality. Although I acknowledge that many developing countries still face a great deal of gender discrimination, I disagree with this oppinion because I believe that the number of women working in sinior management positions have increased significatnly in many societies, expecially in developed countries.

One major reason why women representation have increased significantly is that an increased number of managerial positions are held by women nowadays. Many developed countries have reserved a larger number of management positions for women, helping them reduce discrimination and providing greater opportunities for both sex. As a result, companies benefit from having a more gender balance, while also breaking down stereotypes in the workplace.

Many organisations have also introduced gender quotas, which help them establish a certan number of each gender in a work position. These strategies allow organisations to increase women representation, especially in sectors where males are traditionally dominant, such as engineering and science.

Nevertheless, these policies may also have some consequences. One major concern is that many highly qualified candidates for employment may be rejected simply because their gender quota have been fully occupated, reducing opportunities for may capable professionals. However, by balancing professional qualifications with gender quotas, companies can achieve greater results.

In conclusion, although increasing the number of women representation have significant social benefits, promotions and hirings should be based sometimes in professional skills and merit. By having a balance between gender quotas and professional qualifications when promoting or hiring an employee, companies can achieve greater gender balance, reduce gender discrimination and improve efficiency.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

You have addressed all parts of the prompt, taking a clear position that gender equality has improved significantly. Your ideas are relevant, particularly the focus on managerial roles and gender quotas. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention that companies benefit from gender balance, you do not fully explain how or why this happens, which prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. The argument is consistent, but the supporting examples are somewhat generic. To improve, ensure that each body paragraph provides a deeper explanation or a more specific real-world example to fully support your claims.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use cohesive devices such as 'However,' 'As a result,' and 'Nevertheless' to link your ideas effectively. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct points. However, there are some instances where the flow is slightly mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally repetitive. For example, the transition between the benefits of quotas and the potential consequences is clear, but the internal structure of the paragraphs could be more fluid. Overall, the progression of ideas is easy to follow throughout the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, including terms like 'gender discrimination,' 'managerial positions,' and 'stereotypes.' There are some spelling errors, such as 'las' instead of 'last,' 'oppinion,' 'sinior,' 'significatnly,' 'expecially,' and 'certan.' These errors are noticeable but do not impede communication. To reach a higher band, you should aim for more precise word choices and ensure accuracy in spelling. You also tend to repeat certain phrases like 'gender representation' and 'gender quotas,' which limits the variety of your lexical range.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this level. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement, such as 'women representation have increased' (should be 'has') and 'their gender quota have been fully occupated' (should be 'has been filled'). The word 'occupated' is also non-standard. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall accuracy score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and proofreading for basic grammatical slips will significantly improve your score.
