Student answer (Band 5.5)

Over the last five decades, In many communities women have changed their position to a great extent. However, these communities are unable to claim that they have achieved gender equality. I strongly agree with this statement because even developed countries are failed to some extent to achieve gender equality.

In last century several laws regarding to the women's rights have approved in the parliaments of many countries. However, women are not considered equal to men in every field of life. Both in personal and professional life males are considered superior than females. In many workplaces it is believed that males are more productive and creative as compared to the females. Several multinational companies are also biased towards men during the recruitment of new employees. On average male employees earn thirty percent more than the female employees for the same work. For instance , a hiring app called Indeed shows the median annual salary of male Software engineer is around 120 thousands dollars while female with same education and experience earns around 90 thousands dollars annually on average.

Women are more likely to abused by their partners . There are thousands of cases in which women is abused or raped by men . This is due to the ego and ethos of male personality. Still women feel helpless in many developed countries for their rights . They do protests which are broadcasted on numerous television channels . Therefore, these nations cannot claim on the gender equality achievement.

It is concluded that gender discrimination in professional life and abusive behaviour towards women are the stem reasons of failing the proclamation of gender equality achievement in many societies.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt clearly and maintains a consistent position throughout. You have identified two main areas—professional inequality and domestic abuse—to support your argument. While the ideas are relevant, they could be further developed with more nuanced analysis. For example, when discussing the wage gap, you provide a specific example, which is excellent. However, the discussion on abuse is somewhat generalized. To reach a higher band, ensure that your supporting points are fully explored rather than just stated. Overall, you have fulfilled the requirements of the task by presenting a clear argument supported by relevant examples.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a central theme. You use some cohesive devices such as 'However', 'For instance', and 'Therefore' to link ideas. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel slightly abrupt. For instance, the jump from the wage gap to domestic abuse could be smoother. Additionally, there are minor issues with referencing, such as 'these communities' in the introduction, which could be more precisely linked to the prompt. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between paragraphs would enhance the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your ideas clearly, including terms like 'multinational companies', 'recruitment', and 'proclamation'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'stem reasons' (root causes) and 'are failed' (have failed). You also use 'the women's rights' unnecessarily with the definite article. While your vocabulary is adequate for the task, you should aim to use more precise academic collocations and avoid repetitive phrasing to demonstrate a wider, more flexible range of lexical resources.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you successfully use some complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'women is abused', 'male Software engineer is') and article usage (e.g., 'the gender equality achievement'). Punctuation is generally functional, though there are spacing issues around commas (e.g., 'For instance ,'). These errors do not impede communication, but they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and article consistency will significantly improve your accuracy.
