Student answer (Band 6.0)

The gender equality for women has changed over the last five decades. However, it still has not achieved the gender equality yet. I agree with this statement because even though it has developed so much these years, it still has yet to come to the perfect position for both genders .

Fifty years ago, there was a time when women were not allowed to do any job besides taking care of their kids and home, and even speak for themselves. But today, women are allowed to do everything they want. For instance, having their freedom to do any job they want like politicians, professor, and managers. Also a freedom to speak aloud when there is a gender inequality.

Unfortunately, this does not define every woman in every society have the freedom they deserve. Some countries like in Afghanistan, women are still not allowed to have any profession, and recently they made a new law for prohibiting women to show their skin besides their husband and family member. Not only that, they prohibited them from speaking or going outside without their husbands. This indicates that some societies have achieved gender equality, while some have not. Additionally, in most societies, they still have not developed a perfect gender equality society. For instance, salaries, in most companies despite doing the same work and having same positions, men are still intended to get paid more than women.

In conclusion, although it is true that we have improved so much in the past 50 years, it is still not perfect. Especially, when not every woman on earth has the same equality in terms of job and society.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. You successfully identify that while progress has been made, true gender equality remains elusive. The ideas are relevant and supported by examples, such as the mention of Afghanistan and the persistent gender pay gap. To reach a higher band, ensure that your arguments are more deeply developed; for instance, instead of just listing examples, you could briefly explain the underlying societal or economic factors that prevent full equality. The conclusion effectively summarizes your stance, ensuring the response is well-focused on the task requirements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use some cohesive devices such as 'For instance,' 'Additionally,' and 'In conclusion' to link ideas. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes a bit mechanical. To improve, try to vary your linking words and ensure that the transition between your historical perspective and the current global situation is smoother. Paragraphing is used appropriately, which helps the reader follow your argument. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear, though the use of cohesive devices could be more sophisticated to achieve a higher score.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'prohibiting,' 'profession,' and 'inequality' correctly. However, there are some instances of slightly unnatural phrasing, such as 'perfect position for both genders' or 'perfect gender equality society.' To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and academic vocabulary. For example, instead of 'perfect position,' you might use 'achieved parity' or 'attained true equality.' While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, incorporating more varied and sophisticated lexical items would elevate your writing to a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. For example, 'The gender equality for women has changed' is slightly awkward, and 'men are still intended to get paid more' should be 'men still tend to get paid more.' There are also minor issues with articles and subject-verb agreement, such as 'some countries like in Afghanistan.' While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and refining your use of articles.
