Student answer (Band 6.5)

In modern world, the status of women have been upgraded in many countries by giving them job opportunities, empowerment and share in inheritence. Despite this, these socities cannot provide them gender equality in terms of freedom of taking their personal decisions and making an independent progress. That's why I partly support this view.

Nowadays, the society have become more optimistic for women right to education and employment. The women are competing for their better education and jobs without gender discriminations. They can get admission in any university on merit, while more job vaccancies are created on women-quota to motivate the women. Many global organizations are also working for the better future of the women by giving funds and scholarships to the talented women, for example, many developed universities and NGO's give annnual incentives to the women who belong to the developed countries.

Many countries have passed a legislation regarding the share of women in the property of their ancestors. On the contrary, the women were deprived from this legal and religious right of inheritence. Furthermore, many women are becoming successful enterpreneur by starting their own businesses which makes them more passionate. Additionally, they are vigilantly taking part in armed forces which were considered gender specific, previously.

One major concern is that, in many countries, the women are still struggling of their basic human rights, for instance, in many tribes, the honour killing of women is a common practice. The government even cannot protect them against this brutal law. One more thing is that the women are being forcefully married against their will. These inhuman rituals are still present in the modern societies.

All in all, the modern society allows women to get education and make their career but it failed to protect their lives from the tribal and traditional norms. That's why it can be concluded that the women are still facing the gender inequalities in some socities.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The essay addresses all parts of the prompt, providing a clear position that acknowledges progress while highlighting persistent inequalities. The ideas are relevant and generally well-supported, such as the mention of education, employment, and inheritance laws versus the persistence of honour killings and forced marriage. However, the development is somewhat uneven; the second paragraph focuses heavily on positive aspects, while the third paragraph introduces inheritance and entrepreneurship, which could have been better integrated. The conclusion effectively summarizes the stance. To reach a higher band, ensure that each paragraph focuses on a single, well-developed argument rather than listing several disparate points.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct themes. Cohesive devices are present, such as 'Despite this', 'Furthermore', and 'All in all', though some transitions feel slightly mechanical or repetitive. The progression of ideas is generally clear, although the link between the second and third paragraphs could be smoother. Referencing is mostly clear, though some minor issues with pronoun usage occur. Overall, the text is easy to follow, and the logical flow is maintained throughout the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task, with some attempts at more sophisticated language like 'empowerment', 'legislation', and 'incentives'. However, there are several spelling errors ('inheritence', 'socities', 'vaccancies', 'enterpreneur', 'annnual') and some awkward collocations ('making an independent progress', 'struggling of their basic human rights'). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more careful proofreading and a wider grasp of word formation. To improve, focus on mastering the spelling of common academic terms and refining collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('the status of women have been', 'the society have become') and article usage ('the women are competing', 'the honour killing'). While the meaning is always clear, these persistent errors prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. The use of complex structures is attempted, but accuracy is inconsistent. Focusing on basic grammatical rules, such as pluralization and subject-verb agreement, would significantly enhance the quality of the writing.
