Student answer (Band 7.0)
The position of women has changed significantly in many societies over the last 50 years. Women now have more opportunities in education, employment and politics than they did in the past. However, I agree that gender equality has not been fully achieved because women still face discrimination and unequal opportunities in several areas.
Firstly, there have been major improvements in the position of women. In many countries, women have equal access to schools and universities, and they can choose careers that were traditionally dominated by men. For example, women can now work as doctors, engineers, lawyers and company managers. In addition, more women are becoming politicians and taking important positions in governments. These changes show that society has made considerable progress towards equality.
However, there are still important differences between men and women. One major problem is the difference in salaries. In some workplaces, women may earn less than men even when they have similar qualifications and responsibilities. Women are also more likely to take care of children and household duties. This can make it more difficult for them to develop their careers or reach senior positions. For instance, a woman may have to take a long break from work after having a child, while the father continues working without a similar interruption.
Another reason why gender equality has not been completely achieved is that traditional attitudes still exist in many societies. Some people believe that women should mainly look after the home, while men should be responsible for earning money. Such beliefs can limit women's choices and prevent them from achieving their full potential. Although these attitudes are becoming less common, they still influence families and workplaces in some countries.
In conclusion, the position of women has improved greatly during the past 50 years, particularly in education and employment. Nevertheless, I believe that true gender equality has not yet been achieved because of unequal pay, differences in family responsibilities and traditional social attitudes. Therefore, further changes are needed to create equal opportunities for both men and women.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response fully addresses all parts of the prompt. You clearly state your position in the introduction and maintain it throughout the essay. Each paragraph is well-developed with relevant examples, such as the mention of specific professions like 'engineers' and 'lawyers' to illustrate progress, and the 'gender pay gap' and 'household duties' to illustrate remaining inequalities. The arguments are logical and directly support your thesis. The structure is balanced, acknowledging the progress made while effectively arguing that full equality remains elusive. The conclusion provides a clear summary of your position, ensuring the task requirements are met comprehensively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph has a central theme, and the transition between the acknowledgement of progress and the discussion of remaining challenges is smooth. You use a variety of cohesive devices effectively, such as 'Firstly', 'In addition', 'However', and 'Nevertheless', which help guide the reader through your argument. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct points. The referencing is clear, and the flow of information is natural, making the essay easy to follow from start to finish.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to discuss the topic with precision. Phrases like 'traditionally dominated by men', 'considerable progress', and 'full potential' are used accurately. While the vocabulary is appropriate and clear, it leans towards standard, functional language rather than more sophisticated or idiomatic expressions that would push the score into the 8.0+ range. However, there are no errors in word choice or collocation that impede communication, and the language is consistently natural and well-suited to the academic context of the task.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
The essay displays a good command of grammatical structures. You successfully use a mix of simple and complex sentences, such as 'Although these attitudes are becoming less common, they still influence families and workplaces in some countries.' Punctuation is accurate, and there are no significant grammatical errors that distract the reader. The control over verb tenses and subject-verb agreement is consistent throughout. While the sentence structures are correct and clear, incorporating a slightly wider variety of advanced complex structures (such as inversion or more varied conditional forms) would further enhance the grammatical range.
