Student answer (Band 5.5)

The postion of women has changed a great deal in many societies over the past 50 years however, but these societies canot claim to have achieved gender equality

One major improvement is in education. In the past, women in msny socities had fewer opportuinities to recieve higher education. Nopwdays, more women can attend schools, college, and universities and study professional subjects. As a result women have become more independent and can build successfull careers. For example, women now work as doctor ,engineer, teachers, scientist, and mangers. Moreover, women have gained more legal rights which has improveed their position in society.

Despite these improvements gender equality has not been completely achieved. Women can still face discrimination in the work place. in some cases, they may receive fewer opportunities for pormotion or earn less than men for similar work. Furthermore, womenoften have to manage household responcibilitys and childcare while also working outside the home. This can make it more difficult for them to develop their careers. In some traditional societies, women decision about education , employement and marriage.

In conculsion, I agree that the postion of women has improved greatly over the last 50 years particularly in education , employment and legal rights. Nevertheless, discrimination and unequal responsibilities still exist in many societies. Therefore further efforts are needed to achieve genuine gender equality.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The essay addresses the prompt by acknowledging both the progress made and the remaining challenges regarding gender equality. However, the response is significantly under the 250-word minimum (221 words), which limits the depth of the arguments. While the position is clear, the development of ideas is somewhat brief. For instance, the point about traditional societies is incomplete ('women decision about education...'), leaving the reader to infer the intended meaning. To improve, you should expand on your examples and ensure that every sentence is fully formed and contributes to a cohesive argument. The under-length penalty is applied here as the task requirements were not met.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Despite these improvements', and 'In conclusion' are used to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally hindered by minor errors in sentence structure and punctuation. For example, the opening sentence contains a redundant 'however, but' construction, which disrupts the logical flow. Paragraphing is used appropriately, but the transition between the discussion of workplace discrimination and the mention of traditional societies is abrupt. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'discrimination', 'independent', and 'professional subjects'. However, there are frequent spelling errors throughout the text, such as 'postion', 'msny', 'socities', 'opportuinities', 'recieve', 'successfull', 'improveed', 'pormotion', 'responcibilitys', and 'employement'. These errors are noticeable and detract from the professional tone of the essay. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning, the high frequency of spelling mistakes limits your score. Focusing on proofreading and learning the correct spelling of common academic terms will significantly improve your lexical score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt to use complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as missing articles ('work as doctor, engineer'), subject-verb agreement issues, and incomplete sentences ('In some traditional societies, women decision about education...'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage and spacing. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to affect the clarity of your writing. To reach a higher band, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and ensuring that your complex sentences are grammatically sound.
