Student answer (Band 6.0)

From my perspective I completely agree with this statement the position of women has changed a great deal in most of societies over the past half century.

Firstly, women have made great progress in education and the workplace. In the past, women were often expected to stay at home and take care of their families. However, nowadays, women can receive higher education and work in almost every profession. For example, many women are now doctors, engineers, teachers, managers and business owners. They can also become financially independent and make important decisions about their own lives. This shows that the position of women has improved greatly. Woman's doing great job each and every field.

On the other hand, there are still several areas where women do not have equal opportunities. In some workplaces, women may receive lower salaries than men for similar jobs. They may also have fewer opportunities to reach senior positions. Furthermore, women often have more responsibilities at home, such as looking after children and doing household work, even when they have a full-time job. These problems can make it difficult for women to achieve complete equality.

In conclusion, I strongly agree that women’s position has improved considerably during the last 50 years. Nevertheless, I believe that true gender equality has not yet been achieved because women still face unequal treatment in workplaces and families. Therefore, societies should continue to provide equal opportunities and treatment for both men and women.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The essay addresses the prompt by acknowledging both the progress made and the remaining challenges. However, the response falls short of the 250-word minimum requirement (241 words), which negatively impacts the task achievement score. While the position is clear and the main ideas are relevant, the development is somewhat superficial. For instance, the discussion on workplace inequality and domestic responsibilities is brief and could have been extended with more specific examples or deeper analysis to fully satisfy the requirements of an academic essay. To improve, ensure you expand on your arguments to meet the length requirement and provide more depth in your supporting points.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. The introduction sets the stage, the body paragraphs contrast the progress with the remaining issues, and the conclusion summarizes the argument effectively. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'However', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader through the argument. While the flow is generally smooth, the transition between the final sentence of the first body paragraph ('Woman's doing great job each and every field') and the rest of the text is slightly abrupt. Overall, the structure is coherent and easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are some instances of slightly unnatural phrasing, such as 'Woman's doing great job each and every field', which lacks proper grammar and academic tone. While the range is sufficient to communicate the main points, there is a lack of more sophisticated or 'less common' lexical items that would elevate the essay to a higher band. To improve, focus on using more precise academic vocabulary and ensuring that your phrasing remains formal throughout the response.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical errors, such as 'most of societies' (should be 'most societies') and 'Woman's doing great job' (should be 'Women are doing a great job'). Punctuation is generally functional, though some sentences could be better connected. While the errors do not significantly impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles, and try to incorporate a wider variety of complex sentence structures with greater accuracy.
