Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt but lacks a clear, consistent position. While you acknowledge that gender equality has not been achieved, the supporting arguments are underdeveloped and occasionally contradictory. For instance, the mention of Queen Victoria as an example of political rights is historically misplaced in the context of the last 50 years. The essay tends to drift into general statements about the importance of equality rather than critically evaluating the extent of progress or the remaining barriers. To improve, ensure each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the argument and provides relevant, contemporary evidence to support your claims.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical progression between ideas is weak. Transitions are often mechanical or misused, such as 'At first sight' and 'However', which do not accurately reflect the relationship between the preceding and following sentences. The referencing is sometimes unclear, and the flow of the argument is interrupted by abrupt shifts in topic. To improve, use a wider variety of cohesive devices (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'despite this') and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that links back to your main argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, often relying on basic phrasing like 'good thing', 'great success', and 'very significant'. There are instances of awkward word choices, such as 'suplendid' (spelling error) and 'manner of rehabilitation of rights', which sound unnatural. While the meaning is generally conveyed, the lack of precision and the reliance on simple adjectives prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. Focus on learning collocations and more academic vocabulary related to social issues to express your ideas with greater sophistication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors, including missing articles ('position of women', 'shortage of rights'), incorrect verb tenses ('condition also became change'), and awkward sentence structures. While simple sentences are generally understandable, attempts at more complex structures often result in errors that can cause confusion. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the placement of spaces before commas. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, subject-verb agreement, and the correct use of articles before attempting more complex grammatical forms.
