Student answer (Band 6.0)

The hard working and continuous efforts of women have significantly developed different societies in this modern era. However, it is believed that women's equal position and rights, cannot be claimed by societies, compared to men. I strongly disagree with this notion due to some evidence that provide proof of gender equality in various areas of life.

One primary reason of disagreement is that women are given protection at different public and formal places. To implement the law of their security, a specific call service has provided to them in case of emergency. Moreover, i believe that they are given more respect compared with men while travelling, in the educational institutes, and on local places. For instance, in metro bus, particularly in Punjab, Lahore, some seats have been specifically reserved for women.

Another major aspect about society's acceptance of women's position is that todays, they are given freedom of independent decision making. In addition, they can access job opportunities in those particular departments which were previously linked to men. As a result, this has significantly changed the social mindset and they are free to travel alone and to visit different places instead of being criticised by the society. For instance, the ratio of women who ride bikes has been largely increased in recent years.

From my perspective, the changing attitude of society and the growth in the number of employments are evident that society is gradually accepting women's position. To illustrate an example, their increasing participation in the healthcare and military professions is evident of gender equality.

In conclusion, I strongly believe that the society's behavior about women position is significantly changed. As a result, they have given much more protection, freedom, and employment opportunities in areas which previously specified for men.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The student addresses all parts of the task by taking a clear position on whether societies have achieved gender equality. The writer strongly disagrees with the notion that gender equality has not been achieved and presents various arguments to support this stance. Ideas are extended with relevant examples, such as reserved seats on metro buses in Lahore and the increasing participation of women in healthcare and military professions. However, some arguments tend to generalise slightly, and the development could be more rigorous in places to reach a higher band. Nevertheless, the position is maintained throughout the response, and all core prompt requirements are met.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The response demonstrates a clear overall progression and logical organisation. The text is divided into appropriate paragraphs, each introducing a distinct main idea, such as public protection, independent decision-making, and employment opportunities. Cohesive devices like 'Moreover', 'For instance', 'Another major aspect', and 'In conclusion' are used to connect ideas, although some transitions feel a bit formulaic or mechanical. Referencing is generally clear, though occasional minor slip-ups in logical flow occur. Overall, the structural framework of the essay is clear, supporting readability and coherence effectively throughout.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common lexical items such as 'continuous efforts', 'independent decision making', and 'healthcare and military professions'. However, there are noticeable limitations and inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'on local places' instead of 'in local places', 'todays' instead of 'today', and 'employments' as a countable noun. Spelling and word formation errors occasionally surface, but they do not impede communication. The vocabulary suffices to convey the writer's meaning, though greater precision and variety are needed for a higher score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating reasonable control over basic structures. Examples of complex sentences include 'One primary reason of disagreement is that women are given protection...' and '...the ratio of women who ride bikes has been largely increased in recent years.' However, there are frequent grammatical errors and awkward phrasings, such as 'a specific call service has provided to them' (passive voice error), 'society's behavior about women position' (possessive and preposition errors), and lowercase 'i'. While these errors do not severely impede communication, they persist throughout the text, preventing the response from achieving a higher band score.
