Student answer (Band 6.0)

In this period of modernity, the position of womwn has changed significantly in many societies over past 50 years. Womens now have more opportunities to recieve education, build careers and participate in public life. In my estimation, i firmly agree with this notion that gender equality has not yet been achieved because women still face discrimination at work and unequal responsibilities at home and my opinion will be discussed in further paragraphs.

Supporting my agreement to the given statement, women continue to experience inequality in the workplace. Although women are increasingly well educated and qualified, they may still have fewer opportunities to obtain senior positions or earn the same salaries as men. To cite an example, in some companies, men are more likely to be promoted to management positions, while women face difficulties for progressing in their careers. This show that having equal access to educationand employment does not necessarily mean that men and women have equal opportunities. Futhermore, more women are now entering politics, men still occupied a large proportion of important decision making positions in many societies. For example, a parliament may have many more male members than female members which means that women perspectives may not be equally represented in important decisions.

Explaining some of the another supporting points in favour of this statement, it is true that women often have great responsibilities at home, particularly when it comes to childcare and household chores. Even when both partners work full-time, women may be expecting more time cooking, cleaning and looking after children. For example, a woman may have to take time away from her career after having a child, which can affect her future career opportunities and income. Therefore, traditional expectations about women's roles can still create inequality.

To conclude, I believe that aforementioned points are strongly supporting my view point. The position of women has improved greatly over the last five decades, but I completely agree that true gender equality has not yet been achieved. Workplace discrimination and unequal household responsibilities are two major reasons why men and women still do not always have the same opportunities.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the task by taking a clear and well-developed position on whether gender equality has been achieved. The writer presents relevant arguments supported by appropriate explanations and examples, such as the persistence of the gender pay gap, leadership imbalances in politics, and unequal domestic responsibilities. The position is maintained consistently throughout the essay, from the introduction to the conclusion. Although some ideas could be explored in even greater depth to reach the highest band, the main arguments are well-selected and effectively address the prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay displays a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Information and ideas are arranged coherently, with distinct paragraphs dedicated to the introduction, workplace discrimination, domestic inequality, and the conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'Although', 'Furthermore', and 'Therefore' are used with reasonable flexibility, though referencing is occasionally slightly repetitive or mechanical (for instance, the heavy reliance on introductory transitional phrases). Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different facets of the argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The student demonstrates a sufficient range of vocabulary to allow some flexibility and precision, incorporating less common lexical items such as 'discrimination', 'responsibilities', and 'qualifications'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, including 'womwn', 'Womens', 'recieve', 'difficulties for progressing' instead of 'difficulties in progressing', and 'men still occupied' instead of 'men still occupy'. While these errors do not impede overall communication, they prevent the lexical score from reaching Band 7.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The writer employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at subordination and relative clauses (e.g., 'Even when both partners work full-time, women may be expecting more time...'). However, grammatical accuracy is inconsistent. There are several noticeable errors, such as capitalization and pronoun slip ('in my estimation, i firmly agree'), incorrect verb forms ('women may be expecting' instead of 'expected'), and minor punctuation lapses. These errors occur frequently enough to place the essay firmly at Band 6.
