Student answer (Band 5.5)

Women rights is one of the biggest issue which the world is facing from 20th century to the present one. Throughout human history the rights of women has been neglected by cultures around the world. It is a recent accurrence that this issue is been discussed around the world. Women were oppresssed and considered second class citizen's even in america and the first world countries. Women didnt even had the write to vote in america till the early 20th century.

Till now these achievements can only be considered successful in the first world countries, but not in underdeveloped countries which still has a lot of work to do in the case of protecting women rights.

Women are sitting in higher positions in these countries included south asian countries but the society cannot be considered equal to women in their everyday dealings.

Two types of societal changes can be consider progress, one is women reaching higher positions and the other is breaking traditional stereotypes in which women are constrained to their home by their husbands and families. Their role in society is only reduced to housework and looking after their children. This mindset needs to be changed if we want to see women making progress in every field of life.

Media can also play a bigger role in this matter. Rather than portraying stereotypical roles of women they can show women in variety of different roles which can inspire young girls to achieve more than what society expects from them.

In conclusion i think theres more to be done to achieve women equality in all the fields around the world.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing whether gender equality has been achieved, presenting a clear position that despite progress, full equality remains unattained. The writer touches upon relevant ideas such as women in higher positions, traditional stereotypes, and the role of the media. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited and lacks specific examples outside of general historical references. For instance, the mention of underdeveloped countries and South Asian countries remains broad and lacks deep elaboration. While the task is addressed adequately and the position is clear throughout, the support and extension of ideas align more closely with the Band 6 descriptors.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a recognisable introduction, body paragraphs addressing different facets of the issue, and a conclusion. However, paragraphing is somewhat erratic, with single-sentence paragraphs such as 'Till now these achievements can only be considered successful...' disrupting the flow. Cohesive devices are used, but referencing is occasionally weak or confusing, as seen in pronouns lacking clear antecedents. Furthermore, logical progression between ideas is sometimes abrupt, such as the transition from historical voting rights to the current situation in developing nations. Overall, the structural control reflects Band 5 characteristics.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary for the task, successfully using terms such as 'underdeveloped countries', 'stereotypical roles', and 'traditional stereotypes'. However, there are noticeable word choice and spelling errors throughout the text, such as 'accurrence' instead of 'occurrence', 'oppresssed' with an extra letter, and 'write' instead of 'right'. The phrase 'women equality' is also used instead of 'gender equality'. While the vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey the message, the frequent lexical errors and limited range of less common items restrict the score to Band 5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but grammatical accuracy is a significant weakness. There are frequent basic errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('Women rights is one of the biggest issue', 'rights of women has been neglected', 'countries which still has'), capitalization errors ('america'), and punctuation omissions (missing apostrophes in 'didnt', 'theres', 'citizen's'). Additionally, passive voice construction is mishandled in 'this issue is been discussed'. Although meaning is generally preserved despite these errors, the high frequency of inaccurate structures keeps the performance within the Band 5 descriptor range.
