Student answer (Band 6.0)
In contemporary society, the position of women has changed a great deal in many societies over the past 50 years. However, I largerly believe that these societies cannot claim to have achieved gender equality because men are still dominating in major sectors of the economy.
Many communities have embraced gender balance in recent years by considering women in most sectors. This is mainly because women have suffered due to cultural believes, that men are the only individuals who are supposed to provide for the family, while women are are mistreated. Currently, most communities have empowered women in several dimensions such as fighting against FGM and ensuring that all girls go to school just like the boy child. This has brought about significant positive changes benefiting both women and society in the long run.
Despite this development, most of these societies cannot claim to have achieved gender equality because most men are still dominating in major sectors of the economy. Consider the political field in most countries. Although the laws have allowed equal participation of both men and women, Majority of communities do not trust women in leadership. Therefore, when given an opportunity to select their leader, a higher proportion may select a man. As a result, societies cannot claim to have achieved gender equality.
To conclude, although most societies have embraced women empowerment over the past 50 years, I strongly believe that they cannot claim to have achieved gender balance since men are still dominating in most sectors of the economy.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The student addresses all parts of the task by discussing both the changes in women's positions over the past 50 years and presenting a clear position agreeing that gender equality has not yet been achieved. The main ideas, such as women empowerment through education and fighting against FGM, are supported by relevant arguments concerning male domination in major economic and political sectors. However, some arguments tend to over-generalise slightly, and the development could be extended further for a higher band. For example, the mention of the political field is a strong point, but it could be supported with a more specific example. Overall, the response meets the requirements of the prompt effectively, positioning it solidly within Band 6.5 to 7.0 range, leaning towards a Band 6.0 due to some under-development in the body paragraphs.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is arranged coherently with a clear overall progression from introduction to body paragraphs and conclusion. Each paragraph has a clear central topic, such as historical improvements in the second paragraph and ongoing economic and political disparities in the third. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Despite this development', 'Although', and 'To conclude', although referencing and transitions can occasionally feel slightly mechanical. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, separating the distinct arguments into logical blocks. The relationship between ideas is generally clear, though smoother transitions between sentences would elevate the coherence to a higher band level.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating topic-specific terminology such as 'gender equality', 'contemporary society', 'cultural believes', and 'women empowerment'. There are, however, some noticeable spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'largerly' instead of 'largely' and 'believes' instead of 'beliefs'. Additionally, phrasing like 'boy child' is regionally specific and slightly informal. While the student attempts less common lexical items, occasional inaccuracies prevent the vocabulary from reaching the Band 7 threshold. Communication is never impeded by these lexical slips, securing a solid Band 6.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The student employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilising subordinate clauses effectively with conjunctions like 'although', 'because', and 'while'. There are, however, several grammatical and punctuation errors throughout the text. For instance, the sentence 'while women are are mistreated' contains a duplicate word error, and 'Majority of communities' should use a lower-case 'm' and a definite article. Another error is found in the phrase 'women empowerment', which would be more accurate as 'women's empowerment'. Despite these errors, they rarely impede communication, and the complex structures demonstrate sufficient control to meet the criteria for Band 6.
