Student answer (Band 7.0)
It is undeniable that the social, economic, and political status of women has advanced significantly over the last half century. However, despite these remarkable strides, true gender equality remains unachieved in most parts of the world. I completely agree with the statement that contemporary societies cannot yet claim to have established absolute parity between men and women.
On the one hand, the progress made over the past fifty years is substantial. In terms of education and employment, women today have unprecedented access to higher education and professional careers that were once strictly male dominated. In many developed countries, female university enrollment new surpasses that of males. Furthermore, modern legal frameworks actively protect women's rights, ensuring reproductive freedoms, voting rights, and protection against overt discrimination in the workplace. Women also increasingly hold high ranking executive positions and key political roles, proving that the traditional glass ceiling has at least been cracked.
Nevertheless, beneath these institutional achievements, systemic disparities persist. The most glaring evidence of ongoing inequality is the gender pay gap, Statistically women across various industries continue to earn less then their male counterparts for performing the exact same roles. Additionally, women remain severely underrepresented in top tier corporate leadership and legislative bodies worldwide. This imbalance is often fueled by the double burden the societal expectation that women must remain the primary caregivers at home while simultaneously pursuing full time careers. This lack of structural support for domestic balance frequently halts their professional advancement.
In conclusion, while the past 50 years have radically transformed the lives of women for the better, the journey toward genuine equality is far from complete. As long as wage gaps, professional barriers, and unequal domestic expectations exist, societies cannot honestly boast full gender parity.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The candidate fully addresses all parts of the task, presenting a clear and well-developed position throughout the essay. The introduction establishes a definitive stance in complete agreement with the prompt, which is maintained consistently. Main body paragraphs offer relevant and extended ideas concerning both the progress made over the past fifty years and the persisting systemic disparities, such as the gender pay gap and the double burden of domestic expectations. Examples and explanations are used effectively to support the main points, showing a strong understanding of the prompt's nuances. The response satisfies all criteria for a Band 8 level in Task Achievement.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
Ideas are logically sequenced, guiding the reader smoothly from the historical context and improvements into the counter-arguments regarding ongoing inequalities. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, with each paragraph focusing on a distinct central theme. Cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'Nevertheless', and 'Additionally' are managed well to establish clear logical relationships between sentences and paragraphs. Referencing is clear throughout. Although cohesion is slightly formulaic in places rather than entirely natural, the organizational structure fully supports the progression of the argument, warranting a Band 7.5 score, which is rounded appropriately.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The writer demonstrates a sufficient and flexible range of vocabulary suitable for an academic discussion on social issues. Less common lexical items such as 'unprecedented access', 'overt discrimination', 'systemic disparities', and 'underrepresented' are used with good awareness of style and collocation. However, there are a few minor lexical and mechanical errors, such as spelling 'Statistically' without proper punctuation separation, writing 'less then' instead of 'less than', and a typo with 'new surpasses' instead of 'now surpasses'. These occasional inaccuracies prevent a higher band, but the overall range and precision easily secure a Band 7.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The essay displays a good variety of complex structures, including participial phrases and conditional-like arguments (e.g., 'As long as wage gaps, professional barriers, and unequal domestic expectations exist, societies cannot honestly boast full gender parity'). The majority of sentences are error-free, and control of grammar and punctuation is generally strong. A few minor mechanical slips occur, such as the missing hyphen in 'full time' and missing punctuation around introductory adverbs, but these errors do not impede communication. The grammatical range and accuracy align comfortably with the Band 7 descriptors.
