Student answer (Band 5.0)

The women role has changed very much in many societies over the last 50 years. But these societies cannot say they have achieved gender equality.

I agree with this statement that societies cannot claim to have achieved gender equality just because the role of women has change significantly in the previous years.

The women and men both are crucial parts of the society with each have their own importance in building the society. The women position has changed in previous years as fifty years ago the huge portion of women population were lived as house vives and their main responsibilities were to take care of children and home while men were intended to work and earn for the family. While now mostly women also got into the most position and work along with men in the offices, industries and other areas on the same level and earn for the family. However, that does not means the gender equality nor it should be.

In my view, the concept of gender equality is misunderstood as people think women are on the same level as men and the other way around. But I think this is wrong way to think as they both serve totally different purpose in building a society for example, men cannot give birth to baby whereas, women cannot give birth to a child without a man. So just working at the same position to men does not means they have achieved the gender equality.

In conclusion, both genders have equal importance in the construction of society and has to work along each other to build the societies more good instead of arguing on the achievement of gender equality.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by discussing the extent of gender equality and whether changing roles for women mean equality has been achieved. The writer takes a clear position, stating that societies have not achieved gender equality and arguing that men and women serve different biological and societal purposes. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive. For instance, the argument relies heavily on the assertion that men and women have different roles in reproduction and society without exploring broader socio-economic, political, or cultural dimensions of equality. While all parts of the task are addressed, the ideas remain under-developed and lack the depth expected for a higher band. Therefore, this performance aligns with Band 5.5.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay displays some logical organisation with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is attempted, though some paragraphs, such as the introduction and second paragraph, are slightly fragmented. Cohesive devices are used, but they are often mechanical or repetitive, such as the excessive use of 'while' and 'however'. For example, writing 'While now mostly women also got into the most position...' creates awkward transitions and demonstrates faulty cohesion. Referencing is occasionally unclear, and the progression of ideas lacks smooth transitions between sentences. This structural control and cohesive management correspond to a Band 5.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The student uses a limited but minimally adequate range of vocabulary for the task. Words and phrases like 'crucial parts', 'huge portion', and 'earn for the family' convey basic meaning, but there are noticeable lexical errors and awkward collocations, such as 'The women role', 'house vives', 'most position', and 'build the societies more good'. These errors reflect a restricted control over word choice and word formation. Although the vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the writer's general stance, the frequent errors cause some difficulty for the reader and firmly place this response at Band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay demonstrates a limited range of sentence structures, with frequent errors in both simple and complex forms. There are numerous grammatical inaccuracies throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('the women role has changed', 'each have their own importance'), tense inconsistencies ('were lived', 'have change'), and awkward phrasing ('does not means the gender equality'). Attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty, leading to frequent errors that impede readability and force the reader to decode the meaning. Consequently, this performance is characteristic of a Band 5.0 in grammatical range and accuracy.
