Student answer (Band 5.5)

Here we will discuss about the position of women has changed to a great extent in different regions of the world over the past 50 years. But our societies cannot provide rights to both genders equally that is the main reason why they cannot claim gender equality.

In my opinion it is the right of every human being to have a free will whether he or she is a man or a woman. Both have equal number of emotions, both genders have their own dreams. So it is their right to accomplish whatever they have thought for themselves. But in the recent years we can clearly see that women are growing much more than men in the society. They have raised their voices for their basic rights which is a very appropriate decision for their mental peace and their future. However men and women are biologically different and both play their roles equally in the society. Without the cooperation of any of the one gender the society cannot grow.

In my opinion women should have the same right to work in the society as the men have. However, by raising their voices against the people who do not allow women to participate in the society women have got their rights. Because in this generation no one has guts to control a woman. In every field we can clearly see that women are always on top of men. There is no competetion in both the genders because both play their own roles in the society. But nowadays women are very sharp and can compete men very confidently and easily.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt regarding the changing position of women and gender equality over the past 50 years. A clear position is presented, arguing that complete gender equality has not been achieved because societies still fail to provide equal rights. Main ideas are introduced, such as biological differences and the evolving role of women in the workforce. However, the development of these ideas tends to be repetitive and occasionally contradicts itself, such as stating both 'there is no competition in both the genders' and that women 'can compete men very confidently and easily'. While the task is addressed, some arguments lack adequate extension and depth, placing the response firmly at Band 6 level for task achievement.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement, with a clear introduction and subsequent body paragraphs presenting the writer's perspective. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty and mechanical. For instance, the transition between ideas relies on basic connectors like 'So' and 'However', and referencing is occasionally unclear, such as 'Without the cooperation of any of the one gender'. Paragraphing is attempted, but the grouping of ideas within paragraphs lacks seamless logical progression. The final paragraph groups several distinct thoughts together rather than developing them in a structured way. This aligns well with the Band 6 descriptor where cohesion is sometimes faulty.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating terms such as 'biologically different', 'mental peace', and 'cooperation'. However, there are noticeable limitations and inaccuracies in word choice and spelling, such as 'competetion' instead of competition, and awkward phrasing like 'no one has guts to control a woman'. Less common lexical items are attempted but occasionally lack precision or appropriate collocation, such as 'women are always on top of men'. Despite these errors, communication is not impeded, fulfilling the criteria for Band 6.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing structures such as conditional and concessive clauses ('Whether he or she is a man or a woman', 'However men and women are biologically different'). There are several errors in grammar and punctuation, including missing prepositions, articles, and punctuation marks, such as 'Here we will discuss about the position', 'compete men', and run-on sentences in the concluding paragraph. Nevertheless, these errors rarely impede communication, and the writer maintains a reasonable level of control over basic structures, supporting a Band 6 score.
