Student answer (Band 5.5)

Gender equality has always been a great social issue from a very long time. Even in the modern societies it is not fully resolved. People from multiple societies claim that their society has achieved gender equality but this is highly debatable. From my perspective gender equality is a mojor issue even in the modern societies and it needs to be adressed appropriately.

In the late 90s, gender equality was major concern in many societies across the globe. Women were not considered equal to men and more likely were considered as objects. However, poeple claim it has been fully resolved noways with women getting a lot of opportunities and independence. Women nowadays are not bound to house keeping or kitchen but they are independent of these activities. Women hold importand positions in multiple institutions across the globe and rule powerful countries like Itlay.

However, in the 20th century gender equality still remains a mojor issue in many societies espacially in rural areas across the globe. Multiple cases of domestic violence are reported every year. Women are not allowed to make major decisions in their life including the choice of marriage, right of education or doing a job. Every year a number of honour killings take place just because a woman married by her choice. Women education is banned in multiple places like Afghanistan. Women are not educated or allowed to work. Besides all these factors a number of social stigmas about women exist in the society. They are often associated with kitchen or household. They are not appreciated on their acheivements.

In conclusion, none of the modern societies can claim to have achieved gender equality by just providing them their basic rights. Social streotypes and male dominance are still some big issues which need to be adressed. A society can only claim to have achieved gender equality when it eliminates domestic violenece , honour killing and prohibition of basic rights of women completely from itself.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The student addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear position agreeing that gender equality has not been fully achieved despite progress over the past 50 years. Ideas are relevant and supported with examples such as women holding positions of power alongside persistent issues like domestic violence and the ban on female education in places like Afghanistan. However, there are some minor chronological confusions, such as referring to the '20th century' when discussing modern ongoing issues, and a slight tendency to over-generalise. Overall, the task is well addressed, earning a solid Band 6.5.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response is coherently organised into four paragraphs with an introduction, two body paragraphs exploring contrasting viewpoints, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used adequately, such as 'However', 'In the late 90s', and 'In conclusion', though referencing and transitions can occasionally feel a bit mechanical. Paragraphing is used logically to separate past progress from ongoing contemporary challenges. While the logical progression is generally clear throughout, some minor lapses in referencing prevent the text from reaching a higher band. Coherence and cohesion comfortably meet the criteria for a Band 6.0.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary range suitable for the task, attempting some less common lexical items such as 'mojor issue', 'social stigmas', and 'male dominance'. However, there are notable spelling errors throughout the text, including 'mojor' instead of major, 'adressed' instead of addressed, 'poeple' instead of people, 'noways' instead of nowadays, 'importand' instead of important, 'Itlay' instead of Italy, 'espacially' instead of especially, 'acheivements' instead of achievements, 'streotypes' instead of stereotypes, and 'violenece' instead of violence. These errors indicate a lack of careful proofreading, though they do not impede communication. This performance aligns with Band 6.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over sentence structure. There are instances of effective complex sentences, such as concessive clauses and relative structures. However, frequent grammatical and mechanical errors are present, including punctuation slips, incorrect prepositions ('from a very long time'), and subject-verb or spelling interactions. For instance, 'a woman married by her choice' should ideally be phrased more naturally. While errors are noticeable, communication is rarely impeded. This corresponds to a Band 6.0.
