Student answer (Band 5.5)
Yes, i agree with the statement that the position of women has changed a great deal in societies over the past 50 years. But these societies cannot claim to have achieved gender equality, because of the old mindset that men are better and more suited in the real world and women are just for household work and to have babies. The very bacis problem which be are facing in our society when it come to gender equality is that we dont look men and women equally and we don't give women the quality education, euqal rights to work and a safer work enviornment, we lack bacis sanitation infrastructure for women. When we talk specifically about india a girl child is murdered at borth and boy to girl ratio is really unequal in some states of india for example haryana and punjab. There is a brief problem in education for girls, they are not supported to the extend where they can complete there studies as compare to a boy and government of different states are now addressing this problem and coming up with diffrent programs like " beti bacho beti padho" where the education of a girl is free and family also recive some monthly schoolarship from government. Overall in my opinion we far from achiving the goal of gender equality. We need to work ready hard at the level of society and family to promote girl child birth and make better infrastructure for there education and government should more action to promote women safety and equality by providing more reservation and better woking options and more employment for women.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses all parts of the task by taking a clear position that gender equality has not been achieved. The writer supports this stance with relevant examples, such as mentioning the female infanticide issue in states like Haryana and Punjab, and the 'Beti Bachao Beti Padhao' government program in India. However, the ideas are somewhat limited and tend to generalise without deeper elaboration. While the main arguments regarding education, safety, and cultural mindsets are introduced, they lack full development. Overall, the performance aligns well with Band 6 because it addresses all parts of the prompt with relevant ideas, though some areas remain underdeveloped.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The essay lacks proper paragraphing, as it is presented as a single, uninterrupted block of text. This makes the overall progression difficult to follow and strains cohesion. While basic cohesive devices and referencing are attempted, the lack of paragraph breaks significantly impacts the structural flow. Ideas move quickly from general societal issues to specific Indian examples and back to conclusions without clear visual or logical transitions between paragraphs. This organisational limitation prevents the text from achieving a higher band score, placing it firmly at Band 5 due to the absence of clear overall progression and paragraphing.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary for the task, successfully using terms like 'gender equality', 'infrastructure', 'scholarship', and 'reservation'. However, there are numerous spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text, such as 'bacis' instead of basic, 'dont' instead of don't, 'euqal' instead of equal, 'borth' instead of birth, 'extend' instead of extent, 'compare' instead of comparison, 'diffrent' instead of different, 'recive' instead of receive, 'achiving' instead of achieving, and 'ready' instead of really. Although these errors do not severely impede overall communication, their frequency prevents the writer from achieving a Band 7. The vocabulary range is minimally sufficient, making Band 6 the most accurate descriptor.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some capability to construct longer sentences, such as 'The very bacis problem which be are facing in our society when it come to gender equality is that we dont look men and women equally...'. However, there are frequent grammatical and punctuation errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('we dont look', 'family also recive'), capitalization oversights, and run-on sentences with comma splices. Despite these frequent errors, the meaning remains mostly clear to the reader, allowing for basic comprehension. This performance fits the Band 5 criteria, characterised by a limited range of structures and frequent errors that occasionally cause difficulty.
