Student answer (Band 6.5)

In the last 50 years, the role of women has changed very much in many societies. Today, women can go to school, study at university, and get good jobs. However, these countries still do not have full gender equality. I completely agree with this opinion because women still face many problems at work and at home.

A t the first glance , women have much more freedom now than in the past. Fifty years ago, most women stayed at home to look after children, cook food, and clean the house. Now, they can work in different places like offices, banks, and hospitals. But there is still a big problem with money. In many jobs, men get paid a higher salary than women even if they do the exact same work. This is not fair and shows that equality is not here yet.

Moving ahead , women still have a lot of pressure at home. Even when a woman works a full-time job all day, she usually does most of the housework when she comes home. She has to cook for the family and take care of the kids, while men do less work at home. Also, if we look at big companies or politics, most of the top bosses and leaders are still men. It is very difficult for women to get these high positions.

In conclusion, the position of women is definitely better now than it was 50 years ago. They have the right to study and work. However, we cannot say that men and women are completely equal. Societies still need to fix the problems with unequal salaries and house duties.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by clearly stating a position agreeing with the prompt and discussing both workplace and domestic challenges. The ideas are relevant and supported with clear examples, such as the gender pay gap and unequal distribution of housework. The position is maintained throughout the essay. However, the development of ideas tends to be a bit straightforward rather than deeply extended, which places the response securely in the Band 6 or Band 7 range. Because the main arguments are well-supported and directly answer the prompt regarding gender equality, it aligns best with Band 7 descriptors.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay displays a clear logical organization with a recognizable introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. Each paragraph has a clear central topic, such as workplace issues in the second paragraph and domestic pressures in the third. Cohesive devices are used adequately, though there are minor mechanical transitions like "A t the first glance" (with spacing errors) and "Moving ahead ,". Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. The progression of thought is clear overall, but the mechanical nature of some transitions and minor cohesive flaws keep this criterion at a Band 6.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully discussing social roles, equality, and employment. Phrases like "gender equality," "full-time job," and "high positions" demonstrate functional communication. However, the vocabulary is largely common and repetitive in places (e.g., repeating "big problem" and "good jobs"). There are some stylistic awkwardnesses and spacing errors around punctuation marks. While the lexical range is sufficient to convey the message clearly, it lacks the flexibility and less common lexical items required for a Band 7, fitting the Band 6 descriptor well.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The writer demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating conditional and dependent clauses successfully (e.g., "even if they do the exact same work" and "Even when a woman works a full-time job all day"). There are some grammatical errors and punctuation issues, such as spacing errors in "A t the first glance" and "Moving ahead ,", but these errors rarely impede communication and the majority of simple sentences are accurate. The balance of complex structures with manageable error frequency supports a Band 6 score.
