Student answer (Band 5.0)

Yes , the position of women has changed a great deal in many societies over the past 50 years . In some part of the world government give them equal rights . Before islam the arab kill their girls but after islam they donot kill their daughters . In Pakistan there are many areas like Sindh , KPK there is no gender equality . They think that the girls don't allow to go out of there home that is wrong because islam alow girls to go out of there home for a reason .

Some girls also go out of their home without there father permission . Women rase their voices to give them gender equality . I agree with this decision that we give them equality because they are also part of our society and not much freedom that they apply europen culture that is against the islam . If we give them equal rights they also do hardworks like males . Women want only equal salary but donot want to work hard . Women also clean the waste like males .

To conclude the whole arguement i like to say that we give women some rights according to the islam . Islam give women their rights that they can spend there life easily . Government give them many rights like in educatin department . Government should give them to play a role in the governments . According to my experience if we give them to much rights. it is harmfull for the country.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response attempts to address the prompt regarding whether societies have achieved gender equality. However, the development of ideas is limited, disjointed, and lacks clear focus. The student presents a position, but it is inconsistent and shifts between historical references, personal opinions, and vague generalisations about Islam and regional cultures in Pakistan. While some relevant ideas are present, such as mentions of education and employment, they remain under-developed and are not supported with coherent arguments. For example, assertions like 'if we give them to much rights, it is harmfull for the country' are stated without adequate explanation or logical extension. Consequently, the task is addressed only partially, reflecting the characteristics of a Band 5 performance.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The text shows some basic organisation, with an introduction, body, and conclusion, but lacks a clear overall progression. Paragraphing is used, though the paragraphs themselves contain a hodgepodge of unrelated points. Cohesive devices are either missing or misused, relying heavily on simple, repetitive connectors or abrupt transitions between sentences. For instance, moving abruptly from historical Islamic history to contemporary regional practices in Pakistan disrupts the flow. Referencing is occasionally unclear, as seen with pronouns whose antecedents are ambiguous. The overall structure feels mechanical and disjointed, limiting the coherence of the essay and aligning with the criteria for Band 5.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, with frequent reliance on simple words like 'women', 'rights', 'society', and 'government'. There are notable word-choice and collocation errors throughout the text, such as 'arab kill their girls', 'do hardworks', and 'clean the waste'. Spelling and word formation errors, such as 'eduacatin' and 'harmfull', are also present and sometimes cause confusion for the reader. While the vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey a rudimentary message, it lacks the range and precision required for higher bands, placing it firmly at Band 4.5, rounded to 5.0 for overall comprehensibility.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The essay relies mostly on simple sentence structures, and attempts at more complex sentences are frequently faulty. There are persistent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('government give them', 'islam alow'), incorrect tense usage ('the arab kill'), and missing articles or prepositions. Punctuation is also problematic, with spaces placed incorrectly before commas and periods. These frequent errors cause some difficulty for the reader, although the core meaning can generally be deciphered. This level of grammatical control corresponds to a Band 5 rating.
