Student answer (Band 6.5)
Over the past half-century, the socioeconomic status of women globally has undergone a significant transformation. While it is undeniable that wome n have mounmental strides in fields like education and employment. I competely agree that modern socities still fall short of achieving genuie gender equality.
On the one hand, the process made over the last fifty years is remarkable. Historically, women faced severe restrictions regarding higher education abd career choices. Todays, howeever, women outnumber men in umiversity enrollment in many countries and actively pursue careers in traditionally male-dominated fields, such as engineering, medical, and politics. Furthermore, legal reforms have strengthened womens rights regarding voting, property ownership, and reproductive autonomy. These advancements have undeniably elevated the social standing of womens, allowing them greater financial independence and a stronger voice in public affairs.
Nevertheless, these achievments do not mean that the battle for equality has been won. Systemic disparities remain deeply entrenched in almost every society. The most prominent example is the gender pay gap, where women continue to earn less than their male counterparts for indentical roles. Additionally, the "glass calling" still positions in corporate sectors and leadership roles in goverments. Beyond professional settings, inequality persists heavily in the domestic sphere. Women often bear the "double burden" of managing a full-time career while simultaneously shoulder the majority of unpaid househoold chores and childcare.
In conclusion, although the last 50 years have brought unprecedented progress for women in public and professional life, true gender equality remains unachieved. Persistent wage gaps, underrepresenration in leadership, and unequal domestic burdens indicate that there is still a long way to go before absolute parity is achieved.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
The student fully addresses all parts of the task by clearly stating a position on whether gender equality has been achieved. The prompt is comprehensively covered, acknowledging both the progress made over the past fifty years and the persistent inequalities that remain in modern society. Ideas are well-developed and supported with relevant examples, such as the gender pay gap, the glass ceiling, and the domestic burden placed on women. The arguments are extended logically throughout the essay, demonstrating a clear understanding of the prompt. The student maintains a consistent stance from the introduction through the body paragraphs to the conclusion. The position is well-substantiated with appropriate sociological realities, meeting all requirements for higher-level performance in this criterion without any significant omissions.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
Ideas are logically sequenced and the essay features a clear, traditional four-paragraph structure that facilitates progression. Cohesive devices are used effectively to guide the reader through the arguments, as seen with phrases like 'On the one hand,' 'Nevertheless,' and 'In conclusion.' Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, with each body paragraph dedicated to a distinct theme—progress versus continuing disparities. However, there are a few minor mechanical errors in cohesion and referencing, such as typographical issues ('wome n', 'abd', 'Todays, howeever'), but the overall logical flow remains clear and uninterrupted, demonstrating capable management of discourse markers and paragraph organization.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The student demonstrates a sufficient and generally flexible range of vocabulary suited for an academic discussion on gender equality. Less common lexical items are used with some awareness of style and collocation, such as 'socioeconomic status,' 'reproductive autonomy,' 'systemic disparities,' and 'entrenched.' There are, however, several spelling and word-choice errors that slightly detract from the precision of the writing, including typos like 'mounmental' instead of monumental, 'competely,' 'umiversity,' and awkward phrasings like 'glass calling' instead of glass ceiling, and 'simultaneously shoulder' instead of simultaneously shouldering. Despite these slips, the vocabulary is adequate to convey complex ideas clearly and effectively.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The response exhibits a good mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating control over relative clauses, participial phrases, and conditional ideas. Examples like 'While it is undeniable that women have... I competely agree that...' and 'Women often bear the "double burden" of managing a full-time career while simultaneously shoulder the majority...' show an ability to handle complex syntax. Nevertheless, there are a few noticeable grammatical and punctuation errors, including sentence fragments ('I competely agree that...'), subject-verb agreement issues, and incorrect verb forms ('shoulder' instead of shouldering). Punctuation is occasionally misused, but these errors rarely impede overall communication.
