Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5

The response addresses the topic of women's changing position and gender equality, but it only partially covers the prompt due to severe under-development and a very limited extension of ideas. The writer mentions past restrictions, male dominance, and religious perspectives, but these points are presented as isolated, fragmented thoughts rather than fully supported arguments. Furthermore, the length requirement has not been met, as the response contains only 120 words, falling well short of the 250-word minimum. To move to a higher band, the writer must expand their arguments with detailed explanations and relevant examples, ensuring the full length and word count criteria are thoroughly satisfied.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5

The response shows some organisation of ideas around the central theme of gender equality, but it lacks a clear overall progression and suffers from inadequate paragraphing, appearing as a single block of text. Cohesive devices are minimal or handled mechanically, relying heavily on basic transition words like 'Now' and 'Although' without creating a smooth flow between sentences. Referencing is sometimes unclear, such as the sudden shift into religious arguments at the end without proper logical transitions. To improve cohesion, the writer should group related ideas into distinct paragraphs and use a wider variety of cohesive ties to connect sentences logically and guide the reader smoothly through the argument.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The lexical resource is limited but minimally adequate to convey basic concepts related to society, rights, and gender roles, using terms such as 'perception', 'independent', 'restrictions', and 'discrimination'. However, there are noticeable lexical errors, awkward word choices, and morphological mistakes, such as 'Womens' instead of 'women' and 'had changes' instead of 'has changed'. These errors cause some difficulty for the reader and prevent the vocabulary from reaching a higher level of precision and flexibility. To progress, the writer should focus on expanding their vocabulary range, ensuring correct word forms, and using more sophisticated collocations and less common lexical items appropriate for academic writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The writer demonstrates a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying primarily on simple sentences with frequent structural errors. There are persistent problems with verb forms and tenses, such as 'cannot be go outside', subject-verb agreement issues like 'Male was given priority', and missing articles or incorrect plurals throughout the text. These frequent errors can cause difficulty for the reader and often distort the intended meaning. To achieve a higher band, the writer needs to incorporate a wider variety of complex sentence forms with good control and significantly reduce basic grammatical errors in verb tense, agreement, and sentence construction.
