Student answer (Band 6.0)

In the past 50 years, the position of womwn has changed a lot in many countries around the world. Today, women can go to school, work in big offices, and vote in elections. However. i agree that completely gender equality is still not achieved in many societies.

To begin with, there are still many problems in the workplace. women often get less salary than men for doing same job. This is called the gender pay gap. Also, it is very difficult for women to reach high positions like manager to director in companies because men usually get these jobs. Another problem is that women have to take care of children and do all the housework even if they work full time outside the home.

Furthermore, social and safety issues are still present. In many places, women face violence and harrasment when they walk alone at night. In some traditional societies, families still prefer sons over daughters, so girls do not get qual freedom or respect. Even though laws say men and women are equal, people's thinking has not changed completely.

On the other hand, some people think gender equality is achieved because women can now study at universities and become doctors, Layers, or politicians. While this is true and there is progress, it is still not 100% equal in daily life and in higher kevels of power.

In conclusion, I agree that societies cannot say they have full gender equality. Women have better oppurtunities today than 50 years ago, but problems like lower pay and safety issues show there is still a long way to go.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear position and supporting it with relevant arguments about workplace inequality, social issues, and progress made over the past 50 years. The position is maintained throughout the essay. However, some ideas remain slightly under-developed rather than fully extended; for instance, the points regarding domestic responsibilities and safety concerns are stated clearly, but their broader societal implications could be explored with more depth or specific examples to reach the next level. Overall, the content is directly relevant to the prompt and covers both the historical changes and the ongoing lack of complete gender equality.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear, logical progression of ideas from the past context to workplace issues, safety concerns, counter-arguments, and a final conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately, with each paragraph focusing on a distinct aspect of the topic. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Furthermore', and 'On the other hand' are employed to guide the reader through the text. However, cohesion can sometimes feel a bit mechanical, and referencing could be smoother in places, which prevents the essay from achieving a higher band. The logical flow is nevertheless maintained effectively throughout.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The writer uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating topic-specific terms like 'gender pay gap', 'gender equality', and 'politicians'. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, but these are occasionally accompanied by errors in spelling and word choice, such as 'womwn', 'harrasment', 'qual', 'Layers', and 'kevels'. These minor lexical and spelling errors do not impede communication, but they highlight the limitations in control that keep the vocabulary score at this level. To improve, the student should focus on precise word formation, spelling accuracy, and expanding the use of more sophisticated stylistic phrases.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writing demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'Even though laws say men and women are equal, people's thinking has not changed completely.' There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, including missing articles, capitalization issues like a stray period in 'However. i agree', and minor preposition or agreement slips such as 'doing same job' instead of 'doing the same job'. These errors are noticeable but rarely impede communication, reflecting a reliable control over basic structures while attempting more complex ones. To move higher, the student needs to increase the proportion of error-free complex sentences and refine punctuation.
