Student answer (Band 6.0)

Over the past few years, there has been lot of changes in the roles that women hold in the society. While the position of women changed in many areas, they are still vulnerable to gender inequality. I firmly believe that women are still being undervalued in many communities although they hold a significant position.

In the past years, women are only restricted to households and are limited to looking after the family. While men are encouraged to have proper education and achieve a better role in the society, women are not permitted or less likely to gain employment opportunities. However, in recent times, this trend has changed to a great extent with more females gaining better access to education and hold significant position in the society. For instance, females are able to pursue the career of their insterest in various fields like medicine, law, business and so on with increased access to better educational services.

Conversely, women are not treated equally with regard to men of same employment status in the workplace or anywhere in the society. In many places, men are considered superior compared to the women and show differences in assigning work roles and providing salaries. Foe example, in many companies, males would be preffered for a higher role compared to the females with the same educational qualifications. Similarly, females would be paid less compared the men for the same assigned task.

To conclude, although women had markedly progressed into achieving better roles in the society compared to the previous years, many societies still shows gender differences with females being undervalued and receiving less job opportunities compared to the men.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear position on gender equality and discussing both historical limitations and modern employment discrepancies. The main ideas are relevant and supported with examples, such as referencing careers in medicine and law, and unequal pay in companies. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others. For instance, the discussion on workplace disparities is slightly generalized and could have been extended with more specific depth to push towards a higher band. The overall position remains clear and consistent throughout the essay, meeting the criteria for a balanced exploration of the prompt without requiring any length-related adjustments.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear logical progression from past contexts to modern workplace realities, concluding with a concise summary. Paragraphing is used appropriately, with each body paragraph dedicated to a distinct theme. Cohesive devices such as 'While', 'However', 'Conversely', and 'To conclude' are employed to guide the reader, though referencing and linking can occasionally feel slightly mechanical rather than entirely natural. Pronoun referencing and transitional phrasing work well overall, successfully organizing information so that the underlying progression remains clear, demonstrating solid control over the structural flow of the writing.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The writer uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common lexical items such as 'vulnerable', 'undervalued', and 'disparities' alongside standard terms. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice inaccuracies that prevent access to a higher band. Examples include 'lot of changes' instead of 'lots of changes' or 'a lot of changes', 'insterest' instead of 'interest', and awkward phrasing like 'regarding to men' instead of 'compared to men' or 'relative to men'. Furthermore, typographical slips such as 'preffered' occur, and phrasing like 'receiving less job opportunities' would be improved by using 'having fewer employment opportunities'. These occasional lexical slips do not impede overall communication but highlight the need for greater precision.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing structures like concessive clauses and relative clauses effectively. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, such as article omissions ('in the society' where article use needs checking, and 'have proper education') and prepositions, alongside tense shifts like 'In the past years, women are only restricted' where past time reference requires the past simple or past passive. However, these errors rarely impede communication and the majority of simple sentences are clear. To reach a higher level, the writer would need to produce a higher frequency of error-free complex sentences and maintain tighter control over subject-verb agreement and article usage.
