Student answer (Band 6.0)

Over the years, women were given privilges and opportunities just as much as a man in regards to their capability and skills. However, there are many existing downturns for women no matter how much equality is provided to them. Women has to go through a significant amount of hurdles ever since they hit adolescent. There are certain societal limitations that women cannot transcend no matter how progressive the society becomes for them. There will always be an anchor pulling them down.

Women are expected to be educated, responsible, family oriented, career focused, everything all at once. It seems like and hourglass is set for them because in the eyes of the society, women are running out of time. When a woman turns 25, she is expected to graduate, find a job, fulfill family obligations, settle down and start a family whereas, a man is expected to focus on his career till he turns 30. The predicaments that a woman faces will never be the same as a man. A case in point is, I turned 25 this year and my brother turned 26. When we compare both our lives, I get this stark realization that reality for us is not the same. I am expected to get done with all the aspects of life by 25 whereas he gets to explore his career options, marriage options etc.

Even though the society has progressed and there are liberal minded people, this does not allow women to cross the threshold set for them and this sets apart the differences, hence, In my opinion , gender equality is nothing but a myth.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: you argue that, despite social progress, gender equality has not been achieved. The comparison between your expectations at 25 and your brother’s greater freedom to explore career and marriage options is relevant and gives the argument a personal example. You also address the contrast between women’s opportunities and continuing social constraints. However, some claims are broad or not fully explained, such as “there will always be an anchor pulling them down” and the conclusion that equality is “nothing but a myth.” Develop these points with a specific explanation of how expectations affect women’s choices, and acknowledge or discuss progress more precisely. This would make the reasoning more fully supported and balanced.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction presents the issue, the second paragraph develops the comparison between women’s and men’s expectations, and the final paragraph restates your view. The personal example also follows naturally from the point about unequal social pressures. Some links, however, are mechanical or unclear. For example, “Even though” introduces a contrast, but the relationship between social progress and the claim that women cannot cross a threshold could be explained more explicitly. The long sentence beginning “When a woman turns 25” would be clearer if its examples were organised more carefully. Use paragraphing to separate the main argument from its supporting example, and make connections between claims explicit rather than relying on broad transitions such as “hence.”

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary to discuss social expectations, including “societal limitations,” “predicaments,” “liberal minded,” and “threshold.” These choices show an attempt to express nuanced ideas, although some phrases are imprecise or do not collocate naturally: “given privilges,” “existing downturns,” and “an hourglass is set for them” make the meaning less clear. There are also spelling and word-choice slips, including “privilges” and “fulfill family obligations.” Aim for precise, natural phrasing rather than metaphor where the intended point is not immediately clear. For instance, describe the pressure as “social constraints” or “a narrow timeline of expectations,” and check spelling carefully during revision.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “whereas” and “even though,” and your meaning is generally understandable. Some grammatical errors remain. In “Women has to go through,” the plural subject requires “have”; “ever since they hit adolescent” needs a grammatically complete and natural construction, such as “since adolescence”; and “It seems like and hourglass” should use “an.” The sentence beginning “When a woman turns 25” also needs clearer punctuation and structure, particularly around “whereas.” There are some awkward comma placements, including “In my opinion ,”. Review subject–verb agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries, then proofread punctuation. More consistently accurate complex sentences would strengthen control.
