Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is often argued that women have gained a lot of respect and independence and the position of women has changed a great deal in many socieities as well, despite such changes there are still some places in the world where women are even deprived of basic human experiences.I completely agree with the statement that these socieites cannot claim to have achieved gender equality.

It is very dissatisfactory to see that 50 years back position of women in the society was merely accountable. The only kind of job women were supposed to do in the past was caretaking and being good housewives. In most of the cases women were not allowed to even access primary and secondary education as they were taught to take care of household activities and not actually explore the outside world. Such circumstances led women to a generic mentality that they were supposed to take care of the house and family while the men would go out to explore and earn as well.

It can also not be neglected that in present times, theposition of women in the society has changed a lot. The global spread of education and its influence encouraged many women in the society to step up from their boundaries and claim their right to experience life equally as men. This changes started due to urban development all over the world but there are still many rural communities across the world where they still treat women according to their past beliefs and restricting them to even basic human experiences.

Therefore, the societies cannot claim to have aachieved gender equality where there are still places where women are deprived of education and basic human experiences.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your position is clear from the introduction: you completely agree that societies have not achieved gender equality. You also address change over time by contrasting women’s earlier roles and access to education with improvements linked to education and urban development. However, the response only partly develops the central claim about present-day inequality. The examples remain broad—such as rural communities restricting women’s experiences—and there is little explanation of specific inequalities, such as pay, employment opportunities, or representation. The historical paragraph also takes substantial space without directly showing why equality remains unachieved today. Develop two or three current examples and explain how each supports your position.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, paragraphs about women’s past and present, and a concluding restatement of your view. This gives the reader a general progression from historical restrictions to change and continuing inequality. Linking expressions such as “It can also not be neglected” and “Therefore” help signal relationships between ideas. However, the progression within paragraphs is sometimes unclear, and the contrast between past and present is not consistently connected to the argument about equality today. Some references, including “This changes,” are unclear, while repeated references to “basic human experiences” make the cohesion feel repetitive. Use clearer topic sentences and connect each example explicitly to your main claim.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “independence,” “primary and secondary education,” “household activities,” and “rural communities.” These choices help communicate the general argument. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “merely accountable,” “generic mentality,” and “step up from their boundaries.” Spelling errors, including “socieities” and “aachieved,” also reduce accuracy. Repetition of “position of women,” “society,” and “basic human experiences” limits flexibility. Aim for precise terms related to equality and discrimination, and check spelling and collocations carefully so your ideas sound natural and exact.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “as,” “while,” and “where,” and your main meaning is generally understandable. However, some sentences are difficult to follow because of punctuation and sentence-boundary problems. The opening sentence joins several ideas without clear punctuation, and “This changes started” has a subject–verb agreement error. There are also issues with articles and sentence construction, as in “50 years back position of women in the society,” and the final sentence contains an incorrect verb form in “cannot claim to have aachieved.” Use shorter, controlled sentences where needed, then check agreement, articles, and punctuation in longer structures.
