Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You address the broad issue of changing attitudes towards women and give a position in the final paragraph: society has changed, but support depends on the situation. Examples such as women becoming financially independent and restrictions on going out at night are relevant. However, the response does not clearly answer the extent to which you agree that gender equality has not been achieved. It shifts between claims that women are supported, that equality has nearly disappeared, and that men and women are equal, without resolving these ideas. Several points, including women’s participation in sport and safety concerns, are mentioned but not explained or supported with specific examples. State your degree of agreement clearly in the introduction and develop two or three reasons that consistently support it.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

The response has an opening, several body paragraphs and a concluding viewpoint, so there is an attempt to organise ideas into stages. Some progression is visible from physical differences and sport to social expectations and safety. However, the paragraphs do not consistently develop one central point, and the conclusion introduces claims such as equality being “almost gone” without clarifying how they relate to the earlier discussion. Connections between sentences are often unclear, while repeated references to “societies” and “in a past fifty year” do not guide the reader through the argument. Use a clear paragraph plan, with one main idea per paragraph, and connect each example explicitly to your position.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

You attempt vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “financially independent,” “gender equality,” “self respect,” and “participate,” and you refer to social attitudes, safety and sport. However, the range is basic and repetitive, with frequent spelling errors and inaccurate word choices that make some ideas difficult to understand, such as “societies prature,” “chaimpaions,” and “archive” for achieving medals. Several phrases are also unnatural, including “do Gender equality” and “reduce gender equality.” Build a more precise set of topic vocabulary and check spelling and collocations. For example, describe social expectations as “restrictive gender roles” and say that attitudes “have become more supportive,” rather than repeating broad references to society changing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

There are attempts to express comparisons and reasons, for example, “they can do any think as compair as men can do,” but most sentences rely on simple patterns and are not controlled accurately. Errors in verb forms, agreement, articles and sentence construction occur throughout: “societies belives,” “a womens are,” and “In a past fiftey year societies are support women.” Punctuation and sentence boundaries are also inconsistent, so some statements run together and the intended meaning becomes unclear. Practise building accurate simple sentences first, then add controlled complex forms using “because,” “although” and “while.” Check subject–verb agreement and past-versus-present tense in each sentence.
