Student answer (Band 6.0)
The society has evolved to great extent over the past five decades. One such change can be seen in the perception of women in the society. Though the changes regarding position of women in both indoors and outdoors have been tremendous, societies cannot claim to have achieved gender equality in its complete form.
Women, nowadays, have exceptional opportunities which could not be dreamt of fifty years back. Now, women are not confined within the walls of home only. Rather, they are encouraged to get education, work, explore and live with head held high. However, inferiority still lingers in the subconscious minds of people. The thought that women cannot be suitable for top positions or be a good leader often surfaces whenever any such opportunity arises in any field. Often, a female candidate is considered less capable based on her gender, even if she is compatible in all senses.
A few months back, in the firm where I was interning, a position for the Chief Production Manager was vacant and the Human Resource team short-listed three most suitable candidates. One of them was a woman and she had the best resume amongst all, in terms of both education and expertise. However, she was not selected as the top management believed that a woman is not capable of handling such big corporate responsibility and a man, therefore, is the best fit.
Thus, it can be said that the society has evolved to great length but has not yet achieved gender equality in its truest manner.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is clear: although women’s opportunities have expanded, gender equality has not been achieved. You address both change over time and continuing inequality, and the example of the woman overlooked for a senior role supports your argument. However, some points are less fully developed: the opening claim about women’s opportunities is broad, and the response focuses mainly on workplace discrimination rather than considering other dimensions of equality or explaining how widespread the problem is. The conclusion restates your view but adds little synthesis. The response is 245 words, five words below the 250-word minimum; develop one of your points with further explanation or another relevant example to meet the requirement and strengthen your case.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a coherent overall arrangement: an introduction states your position, the next paragraph explains changes and ongoing bias, a specific workplace example follows, and the final sentence concludes the argument. Linking expressions such as “However” and “Thus” help signal contrast and conclusion. At times, though, the progression is somewhat mechanical, and the example paragraph is not clearly connected back to the broader claim until the final sentence. The reference in “such opportunity” is also slightly unclear because several opportunities have just been mentioned. To improve, use clearer links between each claim and its supporting example, and make references explicit rather than relying on general phrases.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “inferiority,” “subconscious minds,” “top positions,” and “expertise.” These choices help communicate the issue of gender bias, and meaning remains clear throughout. There are, however, some inaccurate or unnatural collocations and word choices, such as “position of women in both indoors and outdoors,” “evolved to great length,” and “achieved gender equality in its truest manner.” “Compatible” is also not the most precise word for a candidate’s suitability. Aim for more natural academic phrasing and precise collocations; this would make your argument sound more fluent and controlled without requiring unnecessarily complex vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including the concessive opening “Though the changes… have been tremendous” and the conditional clause “even if she is compatible…”. Most sentences are understandable, and grammatical errors rarely obstruct your meaning. Some issues remain with articles, prepositions, and sentence construction: for example, “over the past five decades” is preceded by “to great extent” without an article, and “in both indoors and outdoors” has an incorrect prepositional pattern. In “a position for the Chief Production Manager was vacant,” the phrasing also makes the sentence structure less natural. Review article use and common preposition patterns, while continuing to vary sentence structures.
